I'm looking for a commute bike and as I was trawling the net this 2010 Multi strada came up. 1500 miles, top box, flawless condition, owner has all titles, no liens on bike, etc, etc. And it was going for $6,000. He showed a bunch of photos too and it looked in good condition but maybe the seat is packed with cocaine?!?!
So I emailed out of curiosity and below is email trail - start at the bottom. I've removed names and email addresses to protect the innocent!!! Could this be real or as crooked a deal as you'll ever find? I know the answer but just can't resist the potential of picking up a MS for $6k!!!! What do you guys think and only having been in Ca for 6 weeks could you even do this with the DMV, etc?

Hello,

As you probably noticed, the price is rather low, I can ship the bike to you and you will pay C.O.D (CASH ON DELIVERY) the reason I selling the bike at this price because I'm from Italy, I was in USA and bought the bike from USA and I took the bike with me in Italy. I work on a cruise ship, I'm naval officer, work 6 months on board and 3 months stay home, at this moment I'm home.
The bike is here in my garage in Italy, you can drive/ride a unregistered vehicle only 3 months in Italy then you have to register the vehicle to get italian documents. In Italy you can't register a US vehicle, I have the all documents but the bike has US documents and I can't register the bike in Italy because the law doesn't let me. Now, I can't come to USA to sell the bike because I'll spend much money and lose more time, my only chance to sell this bike is to find a buyer in the U.S. or in another country. I can send the bike to your home, shipping will take approximately 10 working days, after you receive the bike you have another two days to inspect. When the inspection period ends, the shipping company will contact you and if there are any issues with the bike. If all is good, I'm sure it will be, they will help you with the transfer of ownership. If you are interested to buy write me back: FULL NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE/ZIP CODE, CELL NUMBER, HOME PHONE#, I will call you as soon I get your info.
You won't find another bike in such condition.

Thanks

Gulf Coast

Hi,

Yes the bike is still for sale. The price is correct, the bike is in perfect working state. No scratches, no dents, accident-free, full service history. Garage kept. The bike has never been dropped or damaged, and it has the original painting, the pictures speak for themselves. It has all the necessary documents (clear title in hand, original bill of sale, user's manual, insurance etc). The title is clear and it can be registered in any state without problems. You have responded to my second email, this is my primary e-mail, e-mail me if you are interested to buy. Where are you located?

Thank you and I'm looking forward to hear from you soon.

you know what they say - If it sounds too good to be true ;)

Seriously too much risk - I am a US citizen and lived in europe for 3 years and brought my bike at the time over and also brought it back. Yes it cost money to ship but not more than $1500 including crate. Sounds a little suspect to me.

in all seriousness, this is a complete scam and is on cycletrader, craigslist etc. been going on for years.

scam

Notice how he keeps refering to th MS as "bike". It's because they paste the same email to multiple sites for different makes. Also notice how his english suddenly improves on the second email. This type of scam has been around for a while. Sorry.

Easy, just tell him you are flying to Italy next week on a business trip and is it possible to look at the bike:D

Also a dead give away, I know of no shipping agents who would assist you with getting the paperwork sorted for registration! Made I chuckle though lol

The oldest African scam in the book.. Can't believe people STILL get taken by these .........

Yup, seen this scam before... Same kinda story about working on a ship and the shipping company deal sorting out the paperwork. Blah blah scam...

A naval officer works in the navy, not on a cruise ship. Scam. Btw if you are thinking of buying this bike, just send me your bank account details and I will check it out for you. Heh heh

yeah total scam.. i had similar responses when i was looking at used 1098/1198 to buy.. these guys think they can get away with it somehow!
