Gloss to Matt

So I have the chance to get hold of some cheap (used) CF parts but they have a gloss finish and the odd blemish. I want to take back the gloss coat and re-apply a new matt coat.

I'm good with a spray gun but my concern is with preparation. How far would I have to take back the finish? Do I take it back to the original carbon? How fine does the finish need to be before spraying? Will the old layer affect/react with the new........ ultimately, should I not bother and buy new?

Wet sand the gloss parts with 400 or 600 grit then re spray with matte clear. Check the mix ratio on your matte clear most of them allow different ratios. I use a 6 parts clear to 1 part hardner to get a matte finish that's close to other mfg parts.

Wet sand the gloss parts with 400 or 600 grit then re spray with matte clear. Dont sand through the original clear worst thing you can do is create pin holes. Check the mix ratio on your matte clear most of them allow different ratios. I use a 6 parts clear to 1 part hardner to get a matte finish that's close to other mfg parts.

Might sound obvious but Just make sure you only remove the gloss coat avoid going through the resin layer befor the carbon fibres. I have seen/watched people removing clear coats and going through the resin layer because they think it's still the clear coat and then sanding off the fibres underneath. The good thing is even with 180 grit it takes a while to go through a layer of fibres. Make sure you remove the dust constantly to see the layers clear coat and resin.

Absolutely no probs, I have done this many times and the reverse.
Just very lightly sand down, only the slightest film until the piece looks dull. I then wipe over with spirit to remove any residue and give a VERY light spray with a can. Let it go off for just a few minutes then apply a heavier top coat.
Keep the article flat as lacquers tend to run very easily. I cut back with autosol before polishing whether matte or gloss
