Hey guys n gals! I just got a GoPro 4 Black from my wife for our anniversary and she bought me the Black because it was more expensive but I'm not sure if that's the best option for me over the Silver. Anyone here have experience with either?

I know the black has better resolution and some other higher end microphone features that can be used but the silver has the touchscreen for ease of use during setup. I was thinking of switching to the silver for that reason as I'm not sure if I even need or could use the higher resolution of the black?

Trying to get this figured out before my next trackdays @ Thunderhill on Nov 2nd & 3rd so I can get it setup and dialed in. Anyone else gonna be there those days?

Thoughts? Thanks for your feedback.

Better resolution equals better track videos dude.. Plus it has a higher frame rate which means the video will be clearer.. She made a good choice.

Thanks for your thougts Mike and that makes sense so I could stay with the black and just setup the mobile app for setup.

Exactly use the mobile app for the control and setup features and enjoy the better video and sound. If I remember correct you can also play the videos thru the app..

While we're on the GoPro topic, what's everyone's favorite mounting position? I was thinking on the front of the tank to get the dash and windscreen in the shot.

that's exactly where mine is mounted.. I tried on the nose fairing and it shook too much.. Also get the waterproof cover so that it gets rid of all the loud wind noise in the videos.. plus if it rains it doesnt mess up the camera

Cool, did you just use the sticky with the standard arm? I seen they also have a swivel type ball mount.

I use the sticky mounts.. They don't come off.. I've run off on the bumpy ass grass at NJMP, hit potholes and everything else.. They stick..

I recently searched between these two cameras in depth.

There is very little difference between the two, side by side comparisons showed little difference.

Key features.

Black no onboard screen, not a big deal with phone apps. Better 4k.

Silver on board screen. less 4k 1/2

Tempted to go silver myself but hate having on board evidence. ;)

Lol! On board evidence.

I always hate regretting (in this case gift) my purchases but I think Mike is right about going with the better resolution. Go big or go home right?

I was wondering how many actually set their cameras on those high resolution settings. The higher the resolution the bigger the files become. At Full HD the files are massive and at 4K massive is no longer descriptive enough. That has an influence on uploading for web viewing etc. In my opinion we should tailor our preferences to the definitions we are actually going to shoot at. Borrow a camera, shoot some videos at the different resolutions, learn the difference and then make an informed decision. :D

I bought a custom made one that attach to the steering center.
I'll post sample videos, it's pretty stable.

What!?! Informed decision? Those take to long! I gotta hair trigger on my wallet.

You have a great point also. I was curious about how much resolution is really needed. I did read that it makes a big difference in using the high res for slow motion video.

Motocam2 - Blackbox Guard, Inc

Forget the gopro. This blackbox guard motocam2 is amazing!! You have 2 very small cameras. 1 mounts under the headlights and 1 under the taillights. It's so small that it's barely noticeable. I saw this last weekend when me and ScrapperX were at our local dealer and it was on one of their demo bikes. Simply awesome. This is probably a must have for any street riding. A bit pricy at $800 but it's an investment into your own safety. We both fell in love with it when we saw it because it was out of the way and discrete. I believe the hard drive gets placed under the seat.

-Waterproof cameras

The resolution will not affect the quality when you do slow motion, your fps will. The higher the fps the better the slow motion.
