Had my HD Hero 2 for over a year now. When I upload the videos to Youtube it looks pixelated and is nowhere near the quality that it is when played on my computer directly. Anyone know why that is? My format is in standard GoPro (.MP4) form. Again, looks great on my computer, looks like crud after uploading. Either on Facebook or Youtube. Anyone who is a computer wiz please chime in. I am thinking it has something to do with how it transfers.

same experience here...

I want to know how they make it look so good on GoPro.com or their channel on Youtube. There must be a secret somewhere :)

Not sure how bad your video looks but keep in mind when uploading to YouTube that right after your upload there will only be a low quality video available for viewing. It can take up to a day for the high res video to be available for viewing.

Yes, you need to also make sure you're uploading HD quality.

+1 Walsh and EvoL

Are you editing the videos at all? What platform are you on Mac or PC?

If you are exporting from an editing program make sure they are being output in HD.

All I am doing is a drag and drop file. Not converting. No editing. Just using standard file. Video setting is in 1080P on the camera and everything. My JVC HD cam works fine. The GoPro looks like shit after uploading. Maybe by converting the file it might actually make it look better. The only thing I can think of is maybe trying to convert it to another file and see if that works. Otherwise the standard GoPro video file looks terrible after the upload. Not sure why.

Have you tried using Cineform to pass them through? This is strange, I've never gotten this issue.

I've been on the fence about getting the Hero Black after reading some bad reviews from all you guys. If anyone really wants one I can get them for 15% off and willing to help anyone out if they seriously want one? Just a thought.

If you want my thoughts, I bought one awhile ago.

It records great quality videos. I'm happy for the most part. That being said, it can be finicky, but so is the bike. Wifi is finicky, but improved. The camera freezes, but this is very seldom and is related to the Wifi. They have been continuing to address these issues, and should be ironed out shortly if not already. Battery life has been improved but still isn't stellar. How do you fix this? Install DC plug and use a use car charger, problem solved. This method does require you to either use the frame or get the battery pac so you can plug it in.

Hth

THANKS!!!
I think someone said the extra battery pack was a must for this thing! So mouting one of those receptacles to mount a car charger is best bet huh? I could actually use that for anything else too like a radar or phone charger which I could use to plug my Samsung Galaxy into for use as my Nav or music / cell source too! Many thanks man!

Yup get a dual usb and charge both. I can show you exactly how mine is configured if you'd like.

I chose to stick with the Hero 2 because of the issues they were having. I have the LCD screen on and it lasts 3-4 hours on a full charge. Just the upload issue is the only thing. I gotta go track down a computer nerd to get it all sorted out

Hero is not compatible with many reproduction as it is recoded different than how some other programs displays.. Videos need to be converted so format is the same as what you want it displayed with.

I wash mine through Apples basic editing software, mostly to edit out boring bits at the ends, and they come out great when uploaded to youtube. Original Hero HD.

I will share my technique.

most important thing is to have a solid computer with lots of ram and atleast quad core processor. Anything older than two years will probably choke running a good editing software or trying to edit 1080p video.

1. transfer your videos to your computer.
2. import them into GOPRO CINEFORM APP (available at gopro site, free). this is very important because you can easily play with exposure, color, tint and sharpness and it will save a '.mov' file which can easily be edited.
3. import the processed files into your editing suite, i use adobe premier cs6!
4. export your final edit with 'H264 codec' at full quality at 1080p. (a typical 5minute video will be as big as 2 to 3 GB.

youtube will downgrade the bit rate from 50mbps to 7 or 8 mbps. but it will look pretty good. the most important step is the sharpness value you select in step 2.

here is the result.
watch in 1080hd.

Vik - great post! Did you use multiple cameras, stop and change, or multiple drives? Just curious as I have used each of these depending on the conditions/result required.
