There's this app Called the Diablo Tire app, it tracks you metrics for riding. Did it at the last track day, pretty impressive, auto lap timing...

Google store doesn't find it...Is it an Apple App??

Yeah I got my last track day on it, but I don't have facebook so I can't share it lol.

Yes, this is not related to nav lol.

Yeah, neat, but kind of pricey for a specific doodad when you can, as you point out, just use your phone. My buddy with a Road King has one.

Yes, expensive and I fought buying one for a long time. Tried a cheap automobile Garmin and tried my phone, Galaxy Note. Neither was readable in full sunlight and was always worried about getting them wet. Finally broke down and got the Zumo and never looked back. Readable in all light, water resistant, works with gloves, great user interface. Garmin desktop software sucks but can be made to work to download routes. In the words of those that trash people who buy knockoff brake and clutch levers, "Don't spend $29K on a bike and cheap out on a __________(fill in the blank)" In this case GPS.

IIRC, the Zumo comes with a RAM ball mount for a generic round handlebar. I took this and clamped it on the rectangular tripletree (I think that is what it's called) as close to the center as I could after wrapping some foam rubber around. The Zumo comes with a nice quick release mount that includes a power connection. Was worried about putting a round clamp on a rectangular bar but it has never budged at all.

The Zumo is pricey but it come with a great range of parts to mount it. All-in-all the daylight readability and included mounts made it worth it to me.

It is a .... setup THEY use. All you need to do is modify it. Use a washer on the inside of the steering hole. Put a socket with an extension up inside the tube an allen on the top and tighten away. It wont move at all. Did the same on my busa and hasn't moved in 3 years. You can really crank it tight.

Ah, many thanks. Ironically, I'm currently reading via an iPhone and couldn't make out the setup on the smaller video image.

Would you mind detailing what parts you used?

I have a otterbox defender case with holster, I took off the belt flip and secured it with velcro cable ties. Looks legit right? lol

Mount like this and get a Uclear headset..

What unit is that? Doesn't look like an iPhone... Nice set up though.

More importantly, hard to tell from the video, but it looked like you were still a ways from your turn point when you missed your shift. Smart decision, but why did you bail?

I wasn't sure if I'd make it so I thought runoff would be best. Didn't want to risk putting it down. Doesn't seem like it, but only had a split second to make a decision.

Would be Note II.

can you show me a picture? or the exact parts! really want to do your idea, coz i have no idea what to buy:eek:

useda garmin nuvi for years. Now don't read this next bit Charlie! :)

When I got the GT I splurged and got a 660LM, what a sweet unit. Hopefully I won't have the bad luck Charlies had with his.

Cya Friday Charlie, heading out early tomorrow morning , meet up with Jim in Erwin about noon, get lunch and go ride.

There are (cheaper) alternates to Garmin Zumo technology.

After having gone through a couple of Garmin Zumos due to poor design on their part (don't get me started....), I decided to get a low-end Tom-Tom and try it. Figured that at $100, I could replace quite a number of 'em if they failed and still be ahead of the cost of a single Garmin Zumo unit.
No regrets after several years. Has performed like a champ after multiple week long trips on my Triumph.
Currently using the Tom-Tom XXL (life time updates) with Ram Mount made for it. No problems with heat/cold/moisture (I put it in my tank bag when it turns to steady downpour.

And like I said, if it get's rained on, or stepped on, or banged, etc., I can just go buy another and still be way way ahead of what Garmin is trying to extort for the Zumos.
