I am one of these crazy people that enjoy long rides on my Pani without discomfort.
Has anyone equipped a GPS on there bike. I am looking for a nice clean install.

I have GPS on all my bikes. Get a 1098 fitment Techmount that will go on the top of the fork leg, just where it sits above the top triple clamp, and you can mount it on any Ohlins equipped bike.

I have one mount that I swap between bikes. Nice bits of kit. Except for the irritating imperial allen bolts.

Just disconnect the electronic suspension wire and slip it over the fork leg, one bolt to tighten, and you are off.

We must have more in common than quality pictures! I have been doing extensive research on this same topic and am almost ready to make my order on equipment!

The Garmin 660 did not get the best reviews and is a hefty price, so I will be using a regular auto Garmin despite the lack of waterproofing. I don't ride in rain often and can easily take it off mount if so. All for about half the price as the bike GPS units. Just a thought.

I have used a Garmin 550 unit now for about four years and it is awesome. Super reliable, far better than the 660 unit, it locks onto the holder so you can't get it nicked when left overnight when you are travelling, and it works really well with the mapsource software.

They are slightly bulkier than the 600's, but have been super reliable. With one techmount bracket, and several sets of power leads wired into each bike's battery, it is a two minute job to pop the unit on whichever bike. It is out of the way of the bike's dash, does bluetooth reception to your in ear speakers (but I don't bother anymore I just look at the screen) and is one of the most useful things I ever bought.

People used to laugh about four years back when I put one on the 848. Now they are everywhere, and for good reason.

Sod map reading. Do that at home, then pick the route, light up all the twisty bits, hit download and go. You can ride for hours on end without even having to think about a map......

Every time I look down and see the bit marked out with a superb pink wiggly line, and the mark "25mls til next turn" I just think "game on!" and wind it up without having to think about anything else.....

Another option for those with smart phones is to download TomTom and use the phone in a waterproof case.

I've done this for a few years now when abroad and it works perfectly. It also charges the phone as you ride, I plug mine into the Optimate cable.

I do hear that the 550 was head and shoulders above the 600 series and is still king of Garmin bike units. You would think they would try their best to UPGRADE from such a great unit and not make it worse? I need the BT feature though and unless you go with an auto type (which we know there are hundreds more of) then you are pretty limited. I would like to use my new Samsung Galaxy S3 for this but trying to figure this out is proving more and I cannot find a mount for a brand new device right now. Great info on the GPS and your 848 man!

550 on a Desmosedici........

The only way to roll!

I've been looking at the best way to charge my iPhone from the battery. You got any pics etc of the set up you have? And is there any issue with the small 1199 battery?

I am looking for mounting kit for my Garmrin Montana to work on my Panigale. Any good recommendation? This model doesnt required runs on 3x AA batteries that will last at least 20+hrs, all you need is to find a way to secure the GPS, the best GPS I had except without Bluetooth features.

Picture mounted on my Diavel with RAM mounting kit.

Zumo 660 fits nicely in the clear pocket on the Ducati tank bag. I just bought the SW-Motech Engage Sport tank bag and gadget holder and that works too. I prefer putting the mounts in or on the tank bag, so I don't have to put mounts on every bike I own. Makes it easy at the end of the day on trips too. Just unplug the power connection, detach the tank bag. No diddling with a bunch of different pieces.

Oh that is nice. I like it being placed in the center. I will have to see if they ship to the US. thanks

Yes that is nice. Let us know what you find out, if the price is right, I'm in as well. Center is better.

Been surfing thru the sites you guys provided and cant find one damn case for the new Samsung Galaxy S3. May as well just get a Garmin and call it a day. Bluetooth of course!

I would be interested by pictures of how you installed the cable.

BTW, as a better fitment system for he iPhone itself : Centre Fork Stem Motorcycle Mount with 3 Prong UltimateAddons Adapter Plate

They also have a weatherproof case which allow for charging.

Some extra info on the GPS support from BikePenR. This version can also be purchased at GPS-mount.be
Price = 150 euro
The support is compatible for 1199 Panigale, 1198/S & R, 1098/S & R, 999, 998, 996, 848, 749 and 748.
It's made out of stainless steel and aluminum.
It's compatible with Garmin streetpilottypes and zumo 220, 500, 550 and 660.
An adapted Ducati headset nut (steering stem nut), to replace the original one, is provided. A remark here is that you require a special tool to remove and reinstall the nut at the right torque. Personnely I asked my dealer to install the nut at first service, but it's quite easy to do yourself when you have the right tool.
I recently ordered this specific tool on ebay.
