Oh my god, not good, back surgery underway apparently, hope he gets good and on the mend soon.
 
Not sure the padding covering the tree would have done much.

Very lucky man.

Hopefully has a speedy recovery
 
watching the video, split second with rear coming out...he gets injured seriously. scary.
 
That looks nasty, and that is probably one of the better places to step off around that course. The open road boys are a breed unto themselves.
 
I can't even wrap my head around this form of racing. It just looks like pure suicide to me. He did look like he went off in a more fortunate location - into an impact barrier and then a field. Had any solid objects been there....well perish the thought. He's one of THE most colorful and interesting people in motorcycle racing - prayers up for a solid 100% recovery!
 
Wow that's horrible. Seemed like a weird crash looking at it. Just a split second loss of traction and down. Hope he's ok and has a speedy recovery.
