Headed home from the gym, downshifted anticipating a light change from yellow to red and a tahoe jabs over into my lane then blasts through the light. I had to counter swerve to avoid the driver and slammed into the guardrail at about 25mph. Luckily I escaped unharmed thanks to my gear

So far looks like the front fairing is split, left front fairing cracked, front fender is smashed, left handlebar snapped, some mirror damage, and a busted brake line. Looks like the gold dash housing is cracked as well but engine, dash and rest of the bike seems fine. No damage to front lights and alignment seems to be fine. No wheel damage, no suspension damage.

Does anyone know around how much this is going to cost me? A bit frustrated, got the guys license info as well as some other witnesses but I don't believe my insurance will cover unless we can prove its the other guys fault and that requires us catching him and proving so. I'm less concerned about insurance than I am about not having a bike as the weather warms up.

Maybe this is a sign I should go for a Speciale now instead of trying to snag one next year off a first owner :D

sorry to hear about the accident, glad you are ok. when you said license info i thought you meant dl not just plates; leaving the scene. not sure of the prices but you should look into get a camera. not too bad for a first accident (sounds like my first accident on the supersport, haven't yet crashed the 1199) and that was pretty expensive so i'm thinking this one is gonna be costly; sorry.

Thanks. Funny enough at the IMS I almost purchased a camera but decided to get a better helmet. How much are we talking for repairs on you supersport, just trying to get an idea. I'd be ok with anything less than 5k.

Damn, that sucks. ..... ....... drivers irritate the crap out of me. Glad you're all right.

it was a couple thousand but that was back in 2008 on an $8k bike.

cameras are cheap, easy to mount, not very intrusive, and not a lot of hassle to maintain these days so it's a no-brainer for me. don't want to jinx myself but even though i ride just like the anybody else, i don't yet have a real fear of my own actions being recorded.

They total for much less. I wouldn't hold your breath in hopes that the title remains clean.

Cost will obviously depend on if you decide to go OEM replacement parts or aftermarket. Most of the parts you need to replace regularly come and go on the classifieds here. If you're patient, you could save yourself a lot of money going that route. It should be much less than 5k to undo whats been done.

Part of your repairs should include a go pro w/ helmet mount. It will pay for itself.

Good luck

Rough ballpark off the top of my head, nose fairing $1,000, middle side fairing $650, front fender $250-300, fairing/gauge holder around $300, handlebar $100.

Take a look at the lower triple clamp to check if the steering Stop broke.

PS the so called frameless design "monocoque" can actually make it easier/cheaper to fix the bike as it's harder to damage the frame. Fairings absorb most of the impacts.

You probably bent the forks a bit too. It’s hard to tell damage as it’s not always visible. Forks, triple clamps, brake discs could all be tweaked and it’s not always visible. Get the check and get a new bike. A great deal on a 17 Panni or pay msrp on the V4.
