-- having owned a desmosedici (23,500 miles worth of ownership) you'll definitely enjoy the experience - it would cost substantially more money to keep it on the road than an 1199......but if you need the fun of owning it, then grab it.....as already pointed out, cost of ownership outside warranty would get "up there" - every 7500 miles it is a 12 or 15 hour service without parts (1 clutch per every 7500mi was the norm for me) - at the 15k mile mark it requires 23hr service, start with 1 clutch on the parts list (basket, plates, pressure plate - i forget the $ on that), and as it turned out it needed a full set (8) exhaust valves (at $649ea msrp)(yes $649.00 each) which was "thankfully" warrantied - of course you need the right shop/tech to do the work as well (i'd recommend Tim @ Austin TX Ducati) he delivered over 15 of them himself while working at a brookfield ct dealership

a bayliss to go with it

which would you take (either bike will get only sunday road rides for fun)

For sunday road rides … without a doubt the Bayliss.

I might also add that the bayliss is my #1 favorite bike .. not many of them about, glad I have one.

Was the OP talking about a 998 Bayliss or an 1198R Bayliss? I forgot they made a 998 Bayliss until I saw your sig. I would still vote for the Desmosedici because of what it represents, but the 1198R is tasty indeed.

It also may come to represent a lot more in the future, as the end of Ducati's v-twin dynasty in WSBK. They are likely to never win a championship on the Panigale and racing glory is the main part of Ducati's marketing DNA.

For fun, the D16 is way more fun than the 98R. It's also a lot more manageable for a sunday ride in certain respects. The 98R is a tough bike to keep the front on the ground, the Desmo - not so much. The desmo runs a bit hotter so not a good bike to commute or stop and go on. But for sunday rides where the roads are expected to be open - the desmo for sure. The desmo also attracts a /LOT/ more attention than the 98R when going or stopped. ..

The GP7 exhaust just adds that much more to the desmo. . As others have said - service costs on the desmo are higher than a stock bike.

but not even close comparing the two. . .

well Cali how about a pic of the fine beast :)

The Desmo D16RR is an *AWESOME* bike. Ideal for the track, although for a sunday afternoon ride ???

Pic of my Bayliss attached. I am in the process of doing a few choice mods on it at the moment.
