Headlight comparison question between V2 and 848

Hey there.

I was hoping to pick the brains of anyone out there who has had the pleasure of owning both an 848 and a V2.
What is your opinion on the headlight performance of the V2 in comparison to the 848?

I've had my '08 848 since brand new, and the headlight performance at night has always been its biggest downfall.
They just don't provide much light down the road any real distance, and when you are riding at night through roads that actually twist and kink, it makes you wish you could see in the dark instead.

I was wondering if the new V2 headlights are any better, or if its just a pipe dream of mine to be able to ride at night once again for the first time in 12 years?

Thanks,

BC.

one if by land, two if by sea, none if by ducati.

i don't own both but if choosing an adjective, it would be 'dismal'. i follow someone or go -20 and work off your memory of what the road used to look like with lighting.

i am saving 'my chariot will turn into a pumpkin at dark' excuse because an officer has probably never heard that one before.

The V2 lights are a carbon copy of the V4 lights which feel more like a LED laser beam that allows you to see pretty decently ahead of you, just in a beam that's maybe a foot wide. You can be on a 2 lane road and not see anything on the shoulder. Forget turning, it's like turning into the dark abyss and hoping you remembered it right or some other light source comes to help you.

Most lights on most bikes suck and sportsbikes tend to be the suckiest due to the easy speed on tap that takes you from partial blindness to full braille mode in about 2 seconds.

I've owned an 848 and now own a V2 and can confirm the lighting on the V2 is much better. I ended up retrofitting custom HID projectors on my 848 when I had it and even then they weren't as good as the V2 in stock form.

I think the greatest headlights are standard on the 1299S model with factory LED headlights and high beams.
Low beams are much brighter and wider than low beam on the 2020 Panigale models.
The only thing the 1299S needs is the high beam fix which leaves the low beam on when you switch on the high beam.
it was actually too bright for DOT, so we are punished with low beams that switch off when high beams are on

still waiting to see someone here install a Rigid light bar on their V4 cause those bikes kinda need it. “It’s like an LED laser” is very accurate for the new Panigale

For the V4, I’d like to see the leading edge of the wings illuminated with the fiber optic piping like the DRL and they can double as the turn indicator

So yeah 1299S has great lights and I heard the 2020 S1000RR does too. I do intend to experience a bmw now that starting to get dark early enough... and they finally have them in stock
