Headlight Fairing Replacement Difficult?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

There are some tips/videos here somewhere related to the side and front fairing removal. There is a "hidden" pin/plug or two (or three), one centrally located at the headlight area that require attention.

Best success and take some pics while you're at it!

I took mine off to change out the coolant (you don't really need to do it for that).

Lots of fasteners and plastic tabs (the owner's manual doesn't illustrate all the fasteners involved so be sure to take off the inboard areas in front of the radiator.

You have to pull the side fairings too, it's absolutely not hard, key is to not rush it, take your time

For a Ducati, its a pretty easy job.

I did it to fit my GPS.

Remove in this order:
1) mirrors - easy
2) lower fairings - easy
3) key guard - easy
4) air conveyors - medium
3) upper fairings - easy, but medium to refit without breaking tabs

Then remove the two main bolts, one each side and if memory serves, it'll just wiggle off, as you pull free some rubber location pegs above the headlight assembly.

Thanks now I'm wondering if i should stash anything in there while I have it off. Maybe xenon lights.

I'm with Xbox on that! Hahaha. I'm in the process of getting a new front fairing as mine was damaged when I bought it. Minor, small issue with the decal when they installed the windscreen. Looked intimidating but I don't think it's too bad.

FYI: the two lower mount bolts for the windscreen have anchor nuts that will fall behind your GPS when/if you remove them. I found that out the hard way!! Good luck.

Coolant Replacement - Front Fairing Removal?

Not a recent post but would like to confirm that you do not have to remove the front fairing to replace the coolant. Haven't attempted this yet but will need to for the track. The rad fill cap seems almost flush with the base of the fairing. Tech that performed the first service claimed fairing had to be removed. If this can be avoided that would be great.

It absolutely can. You can tweak the cap sideways to get it out with the fairing in place by just lifting up on it a bit. I added the coolant by fitting a length of plastic tubing to the end of a funnel and just fed it into the radiator opening from the side. Never removed the fairing.

Yup, I have spare water cooling Tygon tubing :D. I've flushed 3 times and never removed upper.

Oh yeah! I'm disassembling as I type (taking break). My bike looks half apart (both sides and nose) just to get to headlight assembly to change out the high beams!!!

Gotta do a full blown “retrofit” so the beam pattern is usable. Otherwise the light scatters and doesn’t go on the road where it needs to be and is actually dimmer than regular bulbs

BiLED is what BMW S1000rr has now and they’re supreme. This kit would offer extreme output and a perfect pattern. It’s really important
