OUCH! That looks heart sore!

I've yet to experience this, but hopefully it won't burn through my CF rear hugger! Cause that's going to be expensive!

Im at 1100 mile and there's no sign of melting on mine. Are you running a full system exhaust with bigger diameter pipes that might run closer to the hugger? Do you spend much time in slow traffic with high engine temps and low airflow? Odd, surely that should be replaced under warranty?

If you have not already reported this issue to your Ducati dealer, please do so.

Yep let the dealer know.. They say they've seen it before and will replace the hugger. I'm wondering if I should ask for a different or older heat shield as well.. My old 1199 base never had such issues

Personally I see it as an opportunity. I can just remove the rear hugger and boom...built in tire warmer. I will have an advantage over everyone in the early laps. :)

Obviously some 1299 owners are experiencing this issue and others are not,,,has a lot to do with geography and atmospheric conditions. If you live in Ohio your likely not experiencing this. Warranty claim in process, it will be interesting to see how many times Ducati replaces it before they decide on an alternate solution.

Have never noticed this issue posted on here with an 1199

Must have missed that post

Never had the problem on my 1199........Bigger engine more heat probably???

Warranty...... or a massive reduction on a carbon replacement :D

I have a question for all the people that have a melted or over heated rear hugger. Are you running a very soft preload on your bike? Riding 2 up? Or have your linkage set to P vs F?

I would think is much be one of those three reason that this i happening or the composition of your plastic was from a different batch than the ones that have not had this problem.

Blade-

1)No
2)No
3)No

Still have a melted hugger.

Very interesting. I say this because I live in a very hot and humid area. Today it was hot 98 and high humidity 85%. Stuck in traffic and I didnt have any issue with my hugger. I am even more curious as to how this happening. Since it seems to be isolated to a few, not all Panigale owners. Maybe a cleaning solution being used on the hugger that some how changes the nature of the plastic. Kind of like how brake fluid cause ABS plastic to become brittle.

Maybe because they have those engine head covers on which makes the engine run hotter.

I've never soaped any of my bikes. Ever! Never gets that dirty in thr first place so no need. Just a wet microfiber towel to wet the fairings without having to hose it down and a couple of dry microfiber towels to wipe it dry so that can't be it either.

This in my opinion is like one of the many odd quirks of ducati ownership. People complain about spongy clutch and I've never experienced that problem. Burnt lower right fairing? I've swapped mine out twice and some have never done so, even without the spacer fix. Some complain about hot start issues and claim removing the canister is a fix and i haven't experienced this since my first service and i still have my canister in place but obviously others have and some even continue to have the problem even after removing the canister. This rear hugger .... is just another quirk without a 100% known fix.

I guess so. Ducati life. LOL!!! I hope you find the cause and prevent it and pass it on. Good luck and I hope I dont find later I have the same issue arise.

My guess is a cheap or bad batch of plastic on some huggers.. And/Or a shield design which concentrates the heat on that particular area and restricts cooler flow..
Either way a recall/upgrade should hopefully be on the way...
