Can someone that is forum literate set up a poll to help those of us on the fence an this issue?

Entries could be something like:

I am not doing it - fugly

I did it and i am glad - significant improvement

I did it and was disappointed in the improvement

i did it and later changed back

I only installed the .....

I only installed the ......

Thanks for the help

when you start the thread, check toe poll-box in the bottom and give the number of poll items , in the next step you can name them.

Yes. The poll section is at the very bottom when starting a thread. Its funny how the thread gets posted before the poll and I've had some members so fast on the trigger they reply on thread saying there isn't a poll listed. Lol.

Since there isn't a poll... :)

I'm on the fence about it and am still running the old heat shield. I was definitely going to install them since I do experience the heat problem and burned leg, etc., but after the mixed reviews on the forum I am leaning toward skipping them.

It was 103 here yesterday and I rode in traffic...bike was insanely hot but I was at least able ride without feeling like I was literally burning... Pre heat shield "mod" bike was to all intents and purposes unrideable in that scenario...so I am glad I did it

No way, they are super ugly. I live in the desert. Wear full leathers. Heat problem solved.

i did it. looks better. swag is art, rembrandt sucks and heat is the name of the game.

i have it on and i like the way it looks (except for the heat shield for the header). makes a difference for sure. no problem with heat from the front at all and the rear still gets a little hot if your in traffic but not that much of a problem.

Being a complete ......, can some post pics of the new and old heatshields? I'm picking my pani up on Wednesday, but every pic I've seen (and what I think is on my bike) is an old one.

I did it and love it! I installed both the Termi full CF heat sheild and engine head covers. I've been riding in 70s, 80s and 90s degree weather since I've installed the new sheilds but the other day was the real test, I did some pretty hard riding in 100+ degree F the other day in So Cal and not a problem with my inner thigh burning like I used to. I can't wait until some one comes out with nice CF version of the engine heat sheild hint hint @Shift Tech;)

I did 1/2 of the heat shield update. Personally I like how it looks done this way. The header shield I didn't do cause it really is fugly. This combo with the race seat and leather pants....heat is a non issue.

Bought a 2012 a couple months ago with the rear cylinder head and huge header shields already installed. At the first service I had the rear cylinder head shields removed because I didn't like the idea of the airflow potentially being restricted and causing greater heat and unbalancing the tuning between both cylinder heads. Plus, I like to see the rear cylinder from an aesthetic aspect and someone mentioned that they didn't know their heads were leaking with them covered up. I think the heat in certain conditions feels about 10% more without the rear cylinder head heat shield, but I adjust my riding position when the heat intensifies (which is only periodically in traffic).

Here is a picture of mine with just the huge rear header heat shield update:

Just say "NO"

Eeeww...its ugly!

I took a demo ride on a 13 with all the shields and I wasn't convinced that there was a big enough difference to justify a look that I don't like. Granted it was a short ride but I could still feel a decent amount of heat and seemed like more of it was on my junk. No need for swamp nuts. So, until I can't bare the heat I'll stay in the kitchen...

I have the complete update and I don't mind the looks of it at all. As Ive said before, i justify the looks by telling myself the bike looks more current. In person it's much better looking IMO. I personally feel it looks ...... only 'half done', with only the header shield on it sticks out like a sore thumb. The black engine covers blend the black header cover together so less overall contrast.

Heat wise you have to compare various riding style scenarios to make accurate assessments. Slower in town traffic sucks for either setup but a little less with the update.

I have had the new heat shields installed since delivery. While I cannot compare with/without, I can say that more than 75% of my riding time on this bike has occurred in temperatures exceeding 100 °F and, while the bike admittedly can get rather warm in traffic, I have never felt unbearably uncomfortable or come remotely close to actually burning my skin.

Yes, in my opinion the bike does look better without the heat shields but I am also of the opinion that the bike still looks great with them. The new heat shields (in theory) enable the rider to enjoy the bike where it counts most for me – on the road – so the decision to leave them on was easy.

clearly the new shield is a departure from the old one that initially captured our attention. i understand the skepticism because the original was in the majority and the successful is a departure from norm but clearly over time, the standard will be the new shield and the old shield will convey the idea of old, out of date, and rather anemic or dysfunctional. imho
