I'm not sure about the 1299 but on the new Multistrada Ducati is able to read everything.. revs.. gears.. temperatures.. when you started the bike.. etc etc

I always thought that desmodromic valves prevented valve-float and therefore avoided situations like this. Unless maybe the valve just broke on its own.

Any engineers or engine builders in here who have some insight into what happened here?

As I understand over rev on downshifts car or bike is literally a faction of a second. But when things are spinning at 10.5k and are then asked to go say 3-5k higher, plus the it small moment of slip/backlash in the system that needs to get taken up before locking up of items, governors/electronics/clutches can't react quickly enough. The technical term for the result, in the aviation industry at least is 'its fcuked'

Either the valve head broke off on its own from the stress, or the retainer holding the valve broke.

I would still like to know just how much rpm was actually involved.

My dads got an awesome set of tools, I can fix it.

Actually, I would like to know a little more info on how it happened and the RPM's.

I would think something had to have let go in the valve train since the desmodromic valve train is mechanical that contact with the pistons shouldn't happen. Just my 2 cents.

Same thing here..... MY BIKE after 6000 TRACK Miles fitted with aftermarket downshifter and possible downshift overREV.... Happened in 7h Endurance race after 6h of race on 2nd position... speed +-130mph

Rider OK but nice smoke fireworks :D It happened on Slovakiaring, where 1 month ago 8h Endurance World Champs took place....

I would be beyond pissed if that was me these bikes are designed for the track/racing.

Nope guys we rode 3..... me with Panigale, friend with 2014 Fireblade and another with R6. I had 3rd stint 45min each....it was really hot. My bike was 3x on the ground and 8000km track only so i am not blaming anyone only me because stock conrods are known to be weak part for track only riding i should have bought some carrilo or titanium from R...
