Can any one help giving me some info or step by step pics of how to fit rear pegs around full termi system , cheers Stu.

The heatshield has a fine outline of carbon that you have to cut away,in order for it to fit over the pillion pegs! This is the reason why im not going to fit my pegs even though the Mrs wants to ride pillion

+1. I hear it's a pain in ass to install the after the Termi is installed. I believe you have to take the headers off which is a pain.

You have to remove the exhaust headers, then cut the outline visible on the heat shield, then install the pegs and then re-install the heat shield and the Termi headers. Pics are in my member photos. For a more comfortable ride you may wish to have the suspension set to P, not essential though.

If & when my Mrs decides she wants to ride pillion,do you think that removing the carbon heatsheild and installing the pegs, without using the heatshield for the duration will be ok and not burn the undertray?! Not sure if it gives off enough heat hot enough to do so?!

Context : I have a full Termi which is ceramic coated.

I have not ridden the bike without a heat shield so I can not comment from experience. In your context, and for safety reasons I would air on the side of caution and not ride the bike without a heat shield and doubly so if your Mrs is on the back. Issues such as burns on the under tray aside, the risk of touching the exhaust is in my opinion a risk that you would not want to take.

Understandably, I imagine that you want to avoid cutting up the Termi heat shield, although it is really unavoidable. It does not look bad just raises issues when it is time to remove the pegs and your left with a hole in your Termi heat shield. However, you can actually buy a replacement (matte or gloss) heat shield such as this http://www.bellissimoto.com/images/D1199-28T.JPG I don't have one at the moment, although it is my intent to get this exact one if I can not obtain another replacement original Termi heat shield.

A couple of other things, the investment in the DP Passenger comfort seat is well worth it (according to the feedback from my women), it has good grip and 1.5" padding so it is raised quite high. The grips on the passenger pegs like that on the stock rider foot pegs are quite slippy. I swapped them out on the passenger pegs with Rizoma B-PRO pegs, again feedback from my women was that the seat was comfortable, and the pegs offered far greater grip.

Trust this helps.

pillion pegs

Thanks for all the info , not that simple ? going to see if i can get a spare CF heat shield prior to possibly getting dealer to fit , hope the misses enjoys if they go on .

Just my opinion and not trying to be controversial, but why would anyone use an 1199 for 2-up riding? Just amazed that rear pegs and seat are even an option on this work of art.

Kind of agree. Coming under increased pressure to take the other half on the back. Really don't want to, actually considering buying a second bike...

i ride solo 99.9% of the time , but would be nice to take my sexy misses out on the back every once in a while [ when it warms up ] , just my opinion ?

I find that there is an easier way than removing the headers. Take the 4 bolts out that connect the rear frame to the engine. The two bolts to the left and right sides forward of the seat and under the gas tank and then follow the hard plastic down from the seat and you will see the last two bolts you need to remove in order to separate the rear section. Be careful with the upper section because the back side can scratch the hard plastic just below where the bolts go through just under the gas tank. Also it may help to remove the seat and then remove the clamp for the gas tank that is just under the seat. There are cables that run up through the rear section but this should still give you enough play to do what needs to be done. I found this to be a lot easier than removing the headers.

Another note... if you do not want to remove the clamp under the seat then you will want to remove the plastic cover on the front of the gas tank that fits over the ignition switch, this will allow the tank to move more freely but still be careful.

Either way you will have to cut into the carbon fiber heat shield which sort of sucks but it has to be done. If you do it right then you cannot even tell with the rear pegs installed and it looks pretty good. When I did all this I also lined the inside of the heat shield with an insulator to help with the heat.

I normally ride solo but my wife and oldest son like to be taken for a ride from time to time so I went ahead and did the deed. My thinking was that I should not keep them from the thrill of the ride on this hot bike!

Nice tip Dwanecl. With regards to getting another Termi heat shield, I posted a link in my prior message.

Is there a possibility to cut a piece out of the pegs with a grinder? I am in the same boat. Need to put them on once or twice a year.

Reason the passenger pegs are on the back is simple .. I WANT TO SHARE THE DUCATI 1199 ENJOYMENT WITH MY WOMEN. Be it on the road or on the track (2UP). Sure, I don't like the look of passenger pegs on a 1199 either, however I place having my women ride with me over the looks of the bike any day.

I have been thinking the same. The latest revision of the Full Termi Carbon heat shield makes fitting the passenger pegs even more tricky.

The current passenger peg design is pretty bad and an obvious way ahead would be to cut or fabricate pegs that attach in a different manner.

Question:

CaliDuc, is the latest version of the Full Termi Carbon heat shield the one that was delivered with the 1199R?

I have no particular need to alter my shield for the passenger pegs and will have them removed this weekend when I have my oil change/Termi's installed. My wife hinted she wanted to get a motorcycle license when I bought my 1199 so I bought her a CBR600 to learn on. Best $11k I ever spent.
