how do you remove the rear cylinder black side fairing

Hi guys!

I would like to remove these ugly black plastic fairing that cover the rear cylinder

Do you have any tips how to remove them

I would leave them in place.

If you remove the left one, it will expose wiring that's routed under there and it won't look very good.

So then the next thing you'll be asking on this most excellent forum is.
"What do I do with this ugly exposed wiring that I found under my left rear cylinder cover"?

Just take it off there is no wiring . They hook over the studs on the top of the cylinder it's a pain to remove .

It is a pain. You need to loosen the subframe and raise it up to pull them out. Also, at least one bolt needs to be replaced as the one for the heat shield is extra long and looks different from the rest.

You can also go to the dealer and complain they make the bike hotter, and get them removed. That is what I did, because honestly I felt that was the truth. It moved the heat closer to my legs.

No wiring

I remember with the early ones that people took off, there was wiring routed in there somewhere. There were pictures too??

Oh well there you go again.

That's a great idea

yes there is a wiring harness Under one of the plastic trim.

I removed mine recently. It's not difficult, but it takes a bit of time.

remove the seat.

remove the fuel tank completely. It's super easy, and it gets it out of the way. The tricky part is putting back the fuel tank breather lines on the front right hand side of the tank. take your time with this. Lubricant makes the job a lot easier.

remove all four of the subframe bolts. This lets you remove the heat shields easily.

Remove the small cover on the left hand heat shield and expose the wiring harness.

Clip the cable ties holding the harness on (You will notice a channel in the subframe. this is where you run the harness from now on). Remove the left and right hand heat shield.

You will need the following bolts to replace the mounting hardware for the heat shields.
Ducati part numbers and quantity;
85212781A x2
77916441A x2
77210621A x1
77253317C x2
These cost me around $8 in total here in Australia.

Now, put it all back together and enjoy seeing more of your engine and a little more heat while you ride.

Difficulty will depend on your mechanical skills. If you're not confident, let a qualified mechanic do the work. It won't cost you as much as a mistake.

and kept in place with tha black board.. not hard to tuck away..
but a pain to remove...

It's a small loom as you can see by Kopes picture only takes a minute to the route . So technically there is a wiring loom
