Hey

just got my akrapovic exhuast for the 1199, and trying to remove the DB killer before it gets installed. does anyone know how to remove it?

I loosen the screw and then try to pull it out but it doesn't seems to move?

I don't want to damage anything so was hoping someone had done it already and could give me some tips?

I believe you have to remove the screw completely. be sure that it doesn't fall into the silencer...its a pain to get out once it drops in there (I may or may not know from experience).

It's not moving because you're not pulling hard enough. It's pretty snug so you have to move it around while trying to pull it out. It's only held in place by that one screw.

taken the screw completely out, spray some WD-40 and got a some long nose piles and a rag, pull pull... and nothing grrr!

Unnecessary for any of that. I did it with some force and my hands. No wd40, pliers, etc.

Go outside and scream at the top of your lungs. Come back inside and pull that SOB out! Anyway, that's what I do.

Cheers! will give it another try or else i will it for the tuner to do lol!

Mine is booked in for Monday! can not wait!!

Should just tackle the job yourself. No better way to get to know your bike. Be prepared to spend many hours if you do try though. Saved myself over $500.

Mine turned up yesterday too and I am going to fit myself. Going to get a dyno run done so I have some comparison before fitting it up. Hoping to see some midrange improvement.

are you swapping out of a stock exhaust or Thermi?

only getting charge $375 to install the exhaust :) plus workshop is also lightening my flywheel, new rear tyre, minor service and new tune on the TB ecu!

also getting 2 tunes done, one for normal riding and the tune 2 will be a tune for flames haha!

I can not for the life of me pull these things out even with pliers....
All I have to do is remove the single 4mm screw behind the muffler tip, and then try pliers on the inner most pipe and pull?

I've used the force of life and these ....... baffles won't come out.

Thanks

Maybe they aren't shipping with a removable killer anymore :D

Wiggle it around some while pulling it out. Shouldn't need pliers or any tools at all. I certainly didn't.

Try finding a hard plastic/rubbery object that's a bit smaller diameter the baffle holes, shove it snug in that sucker and slowly wiggle them out. It will come off easier this way since you are not bending/pulling it unevenly.

Just did mine last night. Using pliers if they are all the way in will only bend the baffles and make it more difficult to get them out.

I used a great neck multi-use screwdriver head that I bought from Lowe's (it has torque bits for the windshield) to get it out.

Also, if you haven't gotten to it yet, make sure you do not tighten the head bolts until after you fit the mufflers, you might have to remove the side stand, and a spring hook puller will be awesome !

same issue with mine. i ended up giving up because i couldn't get them move, leaving it to the workshop to remove!

i am guessing once they are on and got some heat they might be easier to remove
