I need help from someone very experienced at taking apart every inch of the 1199.

I'm trying to remove an o ring (o-ring) type seal (actually called ring seal) on shock holder. It's on the L shaped piece that connects the engine to the shock to the pivot point for the swingarm (adjustable on the R).

The ring seal is in there tight, and I can't get it to budge. Don't want to compromise the seal.

If you're not sure about where it is, look up the part on DucatiOmaha's microfiche. Page 98, position 17, part 93041271A.

Why do I need to remove the seal ring? That brings up another point. I'm trying to powder coat the holder piece and the heat of baking the piece will destroy the seal ring. So, question...

Can you powder coat a piece without baking it too hot?
If I powder coat the piece with the o-ring in (taped off), how hot can I bake it? I assume most seals on the bike should be rated for at least operating temp, say 180 degrees F. Thoughts?
Or do I necessarily need to bake it at all, since some powder coaters do just the electrical charge and let the sun do the rest (like an outside, fixed structure/trellis that cannot be put into an oven).

I would appreciate input on any of these questions.

Thanks for the ideas regarding different plating/coating options.

My dealer was able to get the seals out. Of course, after I looked at the mangled seals, I thought, "I bet I could've torn them out pretty well myself." (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume that some seals just can't be reused after they are removed.)

The good news is, I'm now a resident expert on removing the engine holder pieces from the bike, and removing the seals from those pieces.

Maybe I should have sent them straight to Xtreme Performance Heat Coatings. Alan, the owner, originally told me to go ahead and send them to him. He said he was pretty sure he knew how to take the seals out. I bet he actually did. Oh well. Live & learn. Not the end of the world at four bucks apiece.

Not dissing my dealer but, seems like one more thing that we, owners, have to figure out ourselves, Instead of finding out from the Ducati experts. I guess that's what the forums are for. Thanks guys.
