Thought I'd share my misadventure I experienced this week.

Had the bike pulled all apart for about a week, doing a little bit each night after work.

- removed all fairings to replace windshield (bunch of holes due to chasing a V4 a couple weeks ago around the three sisters, west texas)
- installed P08 spirit filter
- installed block off plates, plugged airbox, removed valve.
- removed charcoal canister system
- replaced OEM quick-shifter, with newer used one (11K on first one and its starting to fail most shifts)
- installed new chain/sprockets, replaced rear hub with quick change setup, stayed 525 - 15/41
- new tires front and back
- flushed all break/clutch fluids...trying out the castrol SRF racing fluid,
- replaced clutch slave with aftermarket Oberon

Anyways....got everything buttoned up and started bike...Idled like complete .......almost like one piston not firing. Touched the throttle ever so slightly and bike died. Started again, and died once I touched the throttle, this time with check engine light.

Used my handheld tuner to pull codes.... Throttle sensor low voltage, Throttle max range, throttle position failure....

ok has to be the throttle bodies i removed to put the new air filter installed right?

pulled the tank and what do i see? Left the damn micro fiber rag under the injectors in each piston. I always push a clean one in there after i take the tank off and sure as ...., forgot to remove them.

They were sucked under the butterfly valves, about 1/2 of the cloth...saturated in gas....had to gently push the butterfly open, and pull them out. Both were completely intact thankfully.

Cleared codes, bike started up fine, appears i didn't do any permanent damage.

Thought I'd share this story, accept the public ridicule and learn the lesson!

No public ridicule in my opinion. These are some of the learning lessons by DIY. Majority of folks wouldn't bother attempting such a job so props to you if anything n more so for admitting your mistake

You’re good. You were just getting the oil pressure up before starting.

At least you haven’t forgotten to put your kickstand down…

I replaced my water pump with updated pump and forgot idler gear. I remembered as I walked away to let all dry so luckily I didn't start it. Very annoying to remove and redo all the sealant!

I place a shop towel in the throttle bodies well. I only place new ones as they are easier to spot for removal.

We all make mistakes especially when doing so much in life in general!

I had to ban my girlfriend from coming into garage due to her constant distraction. My friends who work from home ban their kids from the home office... for good reason.
