not wanting to completely hijack BMW Alpinas thread and as requested, starting new thread on the subject of upgrading V4 calipers and brake lines...
starting with the pictures of the new brembo gp4 MC calipers...

Pistons are aluminum in those yes? Also do the use the same pad as the stock brakes? Interesting that they decided against the staggered size pistons and went with a 30mm all the way around. It’s probably the best caliper out there if you have 100mm forks. The race spec stuff is a bit of a hassle to deal with for a street bike. There is a bit more variety and availability with the 108 spacing but the 100 vs 108 is a whole different “WTF” conversation. Excellent choice Chris. Looks great

Hi Chris320,
That is very nice pair of calipers. congratulations :D
But, I have a question, from the part# on the box, aren't those the latest GP4-MS caliper?

I'm running these as well, but I switched to the brake-tech ss pistons. I also changed to Proti bleeders since the calipers and pistons weight were adding up. The brake pads are same style as stock, I put in the vesrah xx. Paired all that with the Brembo billet 17x18 and iron rotors, brakes work well now, lol. Of course now I have to have those new moto corse billet fork mounts, starting to think I have a problem.

yes im sure alumunium pistons., i was told direct eplacement for the std stylema calipers, so prob same pads?

really nice chris
I have looked at these. Would be nice if you can get Ti pistons to reduce weight even further. I believe someone in Germany sells pure tech ones which are 30mm dia but not sure if they are meant for these. I tried emailing but no answer. Brembo have told me that the weight of these is 700g each with pads.
If you had the time and some scales would you mind weighing them if you had not already fitted. Cheers

Hi Brad,
Regarding the Germany seller that sell Titanium Piston, do you mean this website?
Bremskolben Brembo STYLEMA - TITAN + DLC

I think it should fit because the BrakeTech Stainless Steel Piston fit both our stock Stylema and the GP4-MS according to this listing at Bellissimoto:
Braketech Ventilated Racing Caliper Pistons for the Brembo Stylema and GP4-MS Calipers

hmmmmmmmmmmm :D :D:D
I need to hold the temptation hmmmmmmmmmmmm:p:p:p

The pistons in the MS calipers are aluminum. Unless there has been a change to the Periodic Table of Elements that I’m not aware of, Ti pistons would add weight to this setup. Ti replacement pistons would be more environmentally resilient however, these calipers have external dust seals so that would not warrant the expense.

how can resist now?

both Option looks so good! may lean towards to brake tech as they will deliver immediately ?

The gp4-ms are 4oz per caliper heavier than stock stylema's, weighed mine when I changed them.

Thanks keith
I was given the weight of the MS calipers by an importer here who contacted Brembo to ask as they were fairly new a few months ago. It was around the time Brembo released them. He had not had any. I have learned that sometimes manufacturers are not very good with their weight data. It is always good to have someone actually weigh something. 4 oz = 113 grams so a bit of a difference. Thanks for the input.

@chris320
will be a really nice looking setup. Keen to hear what you think of the feel after the changeover.

I agree with you Brad regarding the weight, because a bit of weight (by design from Brembo) will help with the "HEAT Capacity", meaning more energy required before the temperature increase due to more mass.
Heat capacity - Wikipedia

Same with the piston, heavier piston, will have more heat capacity, thus preventing the elevation of the brake fluid just behind the piston (better heat barrier).

and with the Ti material or Stainless Steel material, even better because the Material Properties of Ti and Stainless Steel.
Both Ti and Stainless Steel are not as good as heat conductor (more resistance to transfer heat) compare to aluminum, thus again reducing heat transferred to the brake fluid.

Another advantage is those Ti Piston or the BrakeTech stainless Steel piston have ventilated holes which again help with the cooling,
just like the "R" version of the Stylema, yes the Stylema "R" which have the RED stripe below the logo which I believe standard on the V4 SuperLeggera.
This Stylema R came with their pistons upgraded to ventilated version

STYLEMA® R: THE NATURAL EVOLUTION OF THE SPECIES

So all the above add up.

We can always compensate the increase unsprung mass elsewhere, maybe using Titanium bolts, Titanium Front Axle and Magnesium or Carbon Fiber Wheel.

Goon point on the vented piston. i would just leave the Brembo engineering alone on this one. There’s absolutely zero benefits to modifying these calipers.

Yeah no kidding about the 108 spacing headaches. OMG!!! LOL!!!
