It is interesting...come out with a final edition, then don't make it a final edition. Am I the only one that feels like there's a lot of "special edition" Panigales that make it feel a little less special. Maybe I'm crazy since I'm new to Ducati for the past 3 years

Seems to go against everything that has been said about the 1299 engine not being Euro 4 compliant. The dealers in the UK were pretty adamant it was the end of the line for the 1299 engine.

I've felt this way for a long time. It's why I got a base model 1299. Never had any regrets.

But the FE engine is, paint it red and it stops being an FE. Simple.

So they're going to keep making only the 1299 FE (and 959). Looks like the FE won't be as limited as people thought :D

They never said it was going to be limited. Just numbered.

Final edition..........number 12,341?!.......... 2.1? 2.2? 2.3? etc :D

To be fair, if they released a 1299 R (similar to current R livery) with the new electronics and and dash I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

it was known the FE (which is a R) was never going to be limited. It is numbered but not limited. The big downside of the euro 4 is how restricted the 1299 engine is with the euro 4 crap. Its crazy how much its being held back, as a FE owner it is what it is. I wanted it for the engine which is a beast.

With any of these bike the Base model is more than enough, the S model is really the one to get and the R is pure bike ..../ racebike. Don't get me wrong Ive had 2 Rs and I love them, they are something special and a unique riding experience.

It's a "fake news" headline. Ducati has said all along the 2018 1299R Final Edition would be the last Big Twin Superbike, and that they would make as many as dealers ordered through 2018. It's not a "Limited Edition" it's a "Final Edition". The odds of any dealers wanting to order more of them in 2019 would be approximately 0.00% so even though they "can" produce them per Euro 4 regulations cited in the article Ducati has not said they PLAN to make more after 2018. They're saying now that they don't intend to produce a smaller version of the V4 due to engine costs, and that the smaller Superbike will remain a twin. This could happen beyond 2018, who knows, we already know the 2018 959 is still a Superquadro Twin. It would make total sense right now for Ducati to SAY they're not going to make a smaller V4 variant so that no one (i.e. Me) passes on buying the 2018 V4 hoping there will be a smaller one in 2019/2020. It will all depend on what the market demand is, if the 959 stops selling in current configuration and there is market demand for a smaller V4 I would venture to guess we would see one at that point.

Well the R is gonna be a 1000cc anyway isnt it?
All they will do then is detune, drop rpm limit and get rid of all the ultra light parts.
The rest of it will be off the same castings run etc
Its not like they will need another separate motor design.

When it was announced/released and the dealers started taking orders, I went to mine to have a conversation about it. I asked them if I could order one in 2018 and they said they were told that they needed to get their orders in right away as it was "highly limited." I said that all of the info said it would be numbered but not limited and made into 2018. They said the rep told them something else.

I went to another dealer in another near one of my offices. They told me the exact same thing the first dealer said. Zero inconsistency between the two.

So what's the point? Ducati said all along it would be numbered but not limited but at least some of the dealers were under the impressions that they needed to get orders in right away as they would not be able to order any later. If someone didn't do their homework and felt that they were indeed getting a "highly limited" bike then that's unfortunate but I could see how something people thought they were getting something more limited than it is.

That said, it's still an awesome bike and I would like to see what the race exhaust system looks like. I might still get one, regardless of how many are made.

no doubt the FE is very cool and it sucks how the Euro 4 regs suffocate it, how much more bhp does a full system add.

I would take it all with a grain of salt, the number of additional FE's to be sold going forward is likely very, very tiny. They were not part of our 2018 stocking order, they are special-order only, which means that the odds of a dealer ordering one to just have sitting around on the floor for sale is approximately 0%. Last I checked there were only 3 left for sale in the entire U.S. The vast majority of people who want one already have it, so we're talking about a very small number of people who might still order one in the short term and after that I can't see anyone ordering one. It will be a rare bike in the history of Ducati.

Ducati says +5HP on the full system, and 4kg weight savings.
