Is a new 2017 1299 Superleggera a good investment?

The 1299 SL's for sale here are asking $147K/Au or $91,409.75 Euro.

Yes they don't make them anymore yes there is only 500 of them are they getting the asking price hhmmm they are still there for sale!
I personally like the 1299 FE you can save a squid load of cash for another project.
Better you give it to your kids for their kids as thats what you will be looking at if I had the $'s to buy one then hell yeah on the road to whip supercars to death.

Here is a review just to tease you I like the presenter pretty down to earth but boy what a bike.......

Motorcycle as an investment = Nope

Too many things would have to align for it to pan out, and especially considering the time it would take to realize any worthwhile gain, the money would grow significantly more in almost any other regular asset category (based on historical performance).

Both 1199 and 1299 SL have come down in price, getting ready for the V4 GP or SL spec bike.

Never buy a bike as an " investment" imo.
Its a gamble that usually doesnt pay off.

You're better off investing in something like a car thats already proven to hold value and has no other way to go but UP.

Say any older air cooled porsche for example. ( just a single example obviously)

Cars have the same fate only a few that do go up in value..... then it becomes value only in the eyes of the buyer.

That was a fun video. To the OP. If you have the cash and don't go out and buy it after watching that video, you have more discipline than me. I would buy one if I had the cash and not for an investment. :)

Hi folks,

Recently I've been converted to Ducati and I fell in love completely with the brand. I purchased recently a brand new V4 Speciale which I intend to use it on the road and on the track too.

Thing is, I find the V2s super-sports, a die-ing breed, and as Ducati brought on sale the FE, it's pretty clear we will most probably not see a V2 super sport ever again from Ducati, at least in the bigger cc class.

I love the FE but I find the 1299 SL much more special, and I saw some deals for brand new 0km bikes ranging from 70-80k Euro. I know they cost an arm and a leg and a kidney and even if I don't recall exactly how much were they sold from Ducati initially, I'm left wondering if those bikes will increase in value as time goes by, considering the rare aspect of those bikes and the above reasoning.

So would it be a good investment to get one and hold on to it for a few decades, especially if the bike is not ridden, fluids taken out and properly stored!?

And before you all go sacrilege on me, I know...it would be a heavy temptation not to ride it especially on track, but the thought alone of a chance of crashing the V4 Speciale scares the crap out of me, let alone a SL, would make me quickly reconsider and just use at as an art form, a pinnacle of what can be achieved with a V2 super sport.

Am I nuts? If so then shoot and talk be out of it, because I will have a freaking hard time justifying paying that price for a bike.

you are? how will Ducati improve reliability, if nobody riders them far enough to see them blow up?
YES I AM JOKING, But the guy with the ventilated cases wont think so?

Function>>>Form>>> beauty? are Ducatis beautiful in a lounge room or on a race track? Are they more valuable in a lounge room or on a race track?

If you're too worried about crashing it despite good riding abilities on the track, you can't afford it. There are many great track riding schools out there to boost your abilities and confidence. Just don't ride it over 80-90% and the bike can still be enjoyed tremendously. Yes, you can possibly buy it but that doesn't mean you can properly afford it.

Between tracking and racing a duc or doing the same without one worry on my mind on a clapped out SV, I can definitely state that, while the duc gave me a certain rush while wrestling it, I had tons of more fun on the SV. Plus I learned about corner speed and the only headache I got from crashing it was the factual concussion. Not from breaking the piggy bank

I bought the ‘09 530 exc (think the exc was just a wider ratio trans?) and built 17” rims for it. Slicked it down. So sick. Rotax 510cc race motor. Dry sump oiling system. Held 1 qt of motor oil lol. I called it my URBAN ASSAULT VEHICLE. Someone stole it. Good thing too cuz I woulda went to jail soon if not

: )
