Is Panigale the right bike for me?!

One thing I notice with buyers at times... The OP keeps talking about down low performance. I think what occurs is that the rider isn't someone that understands what the bikes need to be for race applications and top performance. The bikes are not going to be torque driven in the low rev range.

The BMW is an in-line. The Duc is a twin, but a rev happy one at that.

The bottom line is that of you desire more down low performance due to mostly urban street riding or lazy riding, yes... The Panigale may not be the best choice.

I have had my S for just over a week and this thing is not lacking in power by any stretch. The torque down low is just fine. I have had a .... ton of bikes and this one is seriously kick ass.

After a second test ride and, riding the MV F4 back to back the ducati is a clear winner, it has put some perspective and the rush after 7k cannot be matched.

Any one compared the RSV4 Factory with the panigale as there is no dealership that will demo one.

the MV is an heavy old-fashioned PIG compared to the Pani. If you really want low-down torque power, get the Ducati StreetFighter or 1198S or some such....but seriously, if the beemer didn't blow you away as a complete package, i think you need to go straight to MotoGP and get on a factory ride -- either that, or you won't last but a few months on the streets......

Yea; what is down low. My diavel has great torque once it starts running smoothly.. This is about 4 K. In town I run 1st gear & slip the clutch. At 5k it's like you woke it from its sleep. The Pani seems a little slower coming alive but by 6 on, hold on.

I did a short test drive and never went above 8 k, but had to turn it off going through 90 on an on ramp.. If this isn't lively enough you must have some huge balls!!!

MV is still a great bike, no need to be a close minded fanboy, the engine in that bike is pure masterpiece, do me a favor go ride it and then let me know what your conclusion is. Yes Pani is newer, more tech, but that doesn't mean that the f4 is not competitive. Like I said Pani is clear winner to me.

After riding so many bikes through ones life you start appreciating every bike in its own unique way.

As much as I want to love the panigale, I have to say I was a bit disappointed...

I was about to buy the 2013 Panigale S, today went on a test ride of a 2012 Panigale S, and wasn't 100% satisfied, the power did move from down and midrange way up above 7k where it wakes up. I found myself downshifting on the highway to get some power... That is not what the twin engine represents!

was the engine set in WET map?

new superquadro is different from testastretta because of power distribution between rpm range. The new engine was designed to run 'higher' such as a 4 cylinders engine.. However 2013's panigale upgrade includes a complete new map that eliminates power loss btw mid rpm values.

we always forget why ducati went for the superquadra. just to make it more ridablle.
the leap in power they took was not from 1198s but from the 1198R. an R that was bordering on the insane as to torque and wheeling. adding another in a 10kg lighter package with that geometry would have made it unmanagable.

the only 'so/so' i heard was from people capable of taming a full prepped 1198R trackbike, saying it s different as to how to get out of corners, as they did not feel the punch. adding that the R was quit a handfull as well... now that these got used to it, they will not go back to the R..

so is the pani torquy? yes. but not as much as a 1198R .. and now with the adjustments ( map + 41T) this is even less of an issue.

i think the RSV must be quit a stunner as well.. much more than a beemer...
i just can't look at them for longer then 2 minutes.. :)

Thanks for the replies, I did ride an s1000rr back in 2010 when they first came out, and was not impressed, also low on power down low and in the midrange, now I heard this was fixed as of recent.

I do love the panigale, the looks, technology behind it the flickability etc but was disapointed during the test ride, the bike was in Race mode. Everything apart the down low/ midrange power is amazing, the dealer should get 13' demos soon so I hope the new map will put the smile back on my face!

A few bikes were capable of putting true smile on my face, 848 evo, cbr1000rr, MV Augusta F4. Wished it would also be the pani, still have hopes as my 13 Panigale S should be here within the next few weeks, its either the up map will make me fall in love with it or the F4 will be my next bike.

Once again those who have the new maps installed without the sprocket (I assume thats the config of 13' Panigales) Please share your experiance.

you cant be serious. i thought you were at first because there are some complaints about the power curve. i road my friends 1198s back to back with the mine and i was like holy crap down low yours kills mine but above 7k you cant hang. i couldnt go above 7k cause it was break in period.
howeveryou were impressed with the cbr and the 848 :confused::confused:
