It is now October so, those of you that have purchased a Panigale w/ ABS probably have at least a few hundred miles or so on it by now. Do you guys even notice it working. Do you recommend it or feel that is was a waste of money. Any close calls and the ABS actually did what it was supposed to do?

I finally be getting back from this year long deployment in the Middle East in about 3 weeks and the Duc shop is going to be my first stop after I take off my uniform! :D

If your gonna spend the money... Does it really matter? You can always turn it off. Personally I felt it a couple of times, especially on the rear...

can only recommend it. sublime, but always there. forget about the extra weight.

ABS will save your ass one day.

wish i would have had it on my earlier bikes. would have saved me from the hospital twice.

also helps the resale value.

In Europe it is required, someday here as well. It is worth it for resale even if you never use it. Not to mention it isn't just ABS, it has multiple levels, and front or rear tire control. Easily worth $1K.

I have only *needed* ABS for less than a second of my life; if my 848 had it that would have saved me 2 surgeries and $3k in medical bills. My 1199 has it.

If my RSV4 would have had it I very likely would not have had the accident that totalled it 8 weeks ago (guy ran a stop sign). I think it's very worth it and actually went with the Tricolore as the S model they had didn't have ABS and I had to have it. Though I also commute with it and am in the rain and downtown riding more than most. But I will never have a bike without it again.

your already going to spend 18k+ for the bike. whats another 1000? all it has to do is save you 1 time. to be worth it. It also saves on the insurance. over 3 years its an extra 27 bucks a month. is the piece of mind worth 27 bucks a month? i say it is. your playing with things that could 1 day save your life why risk not having it? sort of like the guy that spends 20k on a bike then wants the cheapest helmet i mean really?

remember this. you may be the best street rider ever but the person next to you in the mini van with kids screaming, cell phone ringing, eating a sandwich while changing the dvd to keep the kids quite doesnt care how good of a rider you are.

sorry things just keep coming to me. If you dont like it on the track then turn it off a win win

Yes, I got totally cut me off by someone running a red light as I was making a left turn, had to get on the brakes hard and the ABS kicked in perfectly and I stayed upright. My front would definitely have washed out had it not been there.

I really appreciate the feedback guys. I wasn't too sure before but now I am definitely going to get an ABS model.

There's virtually no downside to the ABS systems on bikes now, they work much better and don't carry the large weight penalty that they used to. The ONLY downside that I see personally is for a heavily-used RACE/TRACK bike it's additional plumbing for the brakes making it more of a chore to bleed the system when you put new fluid in several times a year. For a street bike I would take it without hesitation, you might never need it but when you do it will pay for itself quickly, as others have provided examples of!

Good news was hoping you go that way....ride safe, and enjoy everything it has to give you.

If I need the wait reduction...I'll get my @ss to the gym.

1k to save your life but its ok to spend 20K+ on a motorcycle?

you telling me its ok to die or lose a limb

atleast you mite have a good storie after it

i think its worth it, you know why?
even harley davidson has invested money on this technology on there bikes

they not exactly the performance bike you would think they have it.

I tried slamming on the brakes to activate the ABS just get a feel for how it works. Haven't been able to do that yet. But deep inside, I am hoping that it'll work when I really need it, just one time, save my ass one time would be worth the price of admission.

well if you haven't experienced abs on a bike before i highly recommend you go to an empty lot and see how it works. it may scare you the first time, then you will get used to it, and more importantly how to use it at the right time. it is important to be familiar with the braking limits of your bike. :)

I agree with Stw, "Totally not worth it.... Till you need it", just like insurance ;) Having said that I purchased by base without ABS. I've been riding for more than 20 years and have never owned or even ridden a bike with ABS and haven't needed it either. Can't really miss what you've never had. However, when purchasing my bike I personally didn't feel the need to spend the extra coin for a feature that should have been standard equipment in the first place. I assume you own a bike now without ABS? Ever find yourself saying "I wish I had ABS"? If yes, then you've answered your own question as to whether it's worth it or not for your Pani? JMHO ;)
