As i see a lot of Tri's on this forum, i wondered if the Tri is better available than the 'S ?
I can imagine most buyers opt for vanilla or S, so there might be more supply for the Tri ?

It is all marketing strategy by Ducati. The bikes are in high demand, so Ducati makes the Tri available first so they can sell more of the higher cost bikes to recoup their cash quickly. The S and base models are trickling in as well, but the Tri are the first to market in most areas.

The Tri is no "better" than the S as far as function. It has the Tri paint and ABS standard rather than optional.

When the Tricolore *actually* ships with the GPS Data Aquistion kit .. till then they sell with the promise of it to come ;-)

/no offense I am waiting on Tricolore.

/ To answer the thread .. I am purchasing a Tricolore for the following reasons :

1) I worked hard enough and earnt the money to be able to buy it with no debt.
2) I like the paint job.
3) It is limited edition.
4) Girlfriend prefers it ;-)

So is the standard, chocolate or strawberrie and the tric is the three flavors , vanilla strawberrie and pistachio?! Haha :D
Love the tricolore, best bang for the buck too, like when you shop at Costco you buy in bulk you get discount!! Your getting termi slip ons, abs, better suspension, dda+, killer paint scheme...

The only diff between Tri and S are

1. Colour
2. ABS
2. DDA
4. Slip Ons.

The suspension remains the same. IMO, the value jump is between the Base and S

1. Wheels
2. Suspension
3. LED head lights
4. Steering dampener

Which are all items I would consider upgrading on the Base. Where as
- DDA (currently vaporware), I would never use.
- Slipons.. the stock exhaust is darn loud already and initial reports on the exhaust valve mod sounds like it will correct the low rpm tuning issues
- ABS, can take it or leave it.. but would be nice to have.
- Colour... it's a personal thing. I guess this is true for everything about this bike :D

Anyone know of any dealers giving discounts on the Tri? I gotta 1098 Tri in July 2007 for about $2k off. If anyone's dealing, I may be interested.

If this is a serious question, Ill answer seriously. No, I seriously doubt any dealer would discount any of the Panigale models. If you don't want it at full price, there are people ready to take your place.

If you were joking....good one!

Speaking from experience, it is possible to get a discount. The way I got a discount and the only way to probably get a discount is to be a qualified (as in I can pay for the bike today) serious buyer and to find a dealer who has a bike on order against a cancelled contract that they have not been able to find a qualified serious buyer for after a couple of weeks. This works in markets where there are multiple dealers and where there are not an abundance of buyers who can pull around $30K (don't forget tax title and license) out of their pocket for a motorcycle. In these markets a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I believe that's what happen when I got my 1098 Tri in 2007. My closest dealer in which is in an affluent area and caters to celebrities (and it's not Beverly Hills Ducati) wouldn't budge of MSRP and FULL fees. I found a Ducati dealers in a less affluent area who had a Tri for a couple of month just sitting in the showroom. Their offer for the 1098 Tri was "the price of an 1198S with a full system" which I believe was about a $1,000 discount.

I like the 1199s but, honestly, I just don't ride as much as I used to so, I don't mind waiting.

Yep, it'll be pretty difficult during the launch period get one lower than MSRP - the stars have to align perfectly. But I've heard of two guys getting discounts (that's including Ray). Actually, Gunny Fitz didn't outright say he got a discount, but the inference was there I think (correct me if I'm wrong GF).
