That looks like the one that Hdesa sells. They sell an entire kit of special Panigale tools for $129. I ordered the full kit awhile back. The tools are VERY well made.

I have just ordered a steel one from parkitt, I was told to avoid the alloy versions as they don't last long

They do but the trick don't do your nuts up too tight . 280 NM no more your will never have a tight nut .

I got a 55mm 12 point 3/4 drive Sealey branded from ebay for about £20. I hear the alloy ones are next to useless

From their website:

The TPO Parts axle nut socket is designed to be the best available for your bike. Don't bother with the expensive factory tool or cheaply made imports. TPO Parts delivers the best tool for the job, period: The TPO socket is made in the USA from 100% solid STAINLESS STEEL. Unlike competing tools made from Aluminum, ours will never wear out or round off. The torque spec on this nut is very high. You do not want to trust this to an aluminum socket! The TPO socket is so tough that you can use it with an impact wrench if you want to. Even though this socket is made from steel, it is not as hard than the factory nut, so you do not have to worry about damaging your bike.

The TPO socket has the correct torque spec machined directly into the tool so you can't lose or forget it, and you don't need to reach for a service manual. The torque spec is provided in both metric (N-M) and imperial (ft-lb) units.

The TPO socket is designed specifically for the Ducati wheel nuts. This socket has a special shape that grabs the flat sides of the nut only to prevent "rounding off" the corners.

i have a steel one... the aluminum didn't last.

Yup. Get a steel one and forget those aluminum "alloy" ones. Impact wrench (I use an electric one) and taking rear wheels on/off becomes an easy task.

That is the best one I have seen yet; and the price is right!
I had an alloy one that just didn't last.
Question: is the tool for the 1198 the correct one? I recall that it is; however I want to make sure before I pick one up.

the TPO web site says it is the right tool for the 1198 '09 to '11 - they do not even list the 1199  -- i remember when i saw that back in 2013, they told me they had to update their web site
