It is snowing again today
I'm hoping for warmer weather next week so that I can get to know what the bike has on offer. Had about 100 km ride yesterday in freezing conditions.
The first thing that struck me was how light and easy to ride it was. It pulls away cleanly from standstill without hesitation. Great mid-range and no problem i slow traffic, even when cold. There is a fair bit of vibration, especially below 4000 RPM. I did not feel the vibration to be a problem, the only issue is the poor rear view offered when mirrors are vibrating.
Levers are light, and clutch engages smoothly, brakes only need one finger and can be dosed quite easily. Throttle response is immediate, but can be a bit erratic in the 195HI setting. Seat is quite hard, but 100 km was no problem, even though it was the first ride this season. Under seat heat was welcome yesterday, but I can understand that some might complain in warmer weather conditions.
The dash is a real treat. Easy to maneuver through the menus, settings can changed on the fly without too much trouble. The only gripe I have is the high beam, which is quite easy to engage with thicker winter glows.
I spent some time riding on the highway (transport) and it is comfortable cruising. Seat position is quite comfortable and you can change position from front to back depending on how much forward lean you want. I had no issues with neck or wrist pain, but it was a shortish trip.
I had the pleasure to drive through 12 tunnels on the way back home. This was quite a treat, the sound is unbelievable!
Up-shifts with the speed-shifter is flawless, but you can feel the ignition being cut if the RPM is low. I did not go very high, maybe 7-8000 RPM max. Downshifts are smooth, but surely depends on setting. I did not have time to play around with different settings yesterday.
Suspension is firm, but I was quite surprised at how compliant it was. I'm 65-67 kg (about 145 lb) and did not feel that the suspension was an issue. I have to check the settings, assume it was standard. I had one close call with a pot hole, other than having quite a bad bone jarring experience it did not try to eject me from the bike. Confidence inspiring!
The ABS works well, the roads are littered with grit and salt(very slippery). Very stable, and no noticeable ABS lever feel.
I'm sure I'll be able to let you know more next week, pending weather conditions. Track days are scheduled for May and June. I'll keep it stock for now, and she how it performs on the track before considering rear-sets, levers........
Fuel warning light came on about 1 Km after having left the dealer. Stopped at the first gas station and was able to put about 12,5 liters of gas in the tank. This should give a reserve of about 4,5-5,0 liters.
It lived up to my expectations and the some. Can't wait to get back out there.
