Who's all going?!

I'll be heading out on Thursday evening/late night from Las Vegas and will be attending the track on the 9th-10th. First time in Monterrey so any good riding routes and attractions you can suggest are greatly appreciated. I'll also be taking my son (11) so if anyone around my area wants to join they are more than welcome!

Make sure you head down to Cannery Row in Downtown Monterey on Saturday Night. They close the entire street and motorcycles line the entire strip. Lots of cool and rare bikes to look at with music and fun race party atmosphere. Pretty packed on Friday night as well.

Around the track:
Monterey PD and CHP turn into SS Nazi Guards whenever there's a WSBK event or MotoGP. Their only goal is to impound, tax, arrest and/or cite as many riders as possible.
Make sure your documents are in order. Insurance, registration, etc.
Do not have anything modified on your bike you could be cited for.
Do not attempt to exceed the speed limit within 20 miles of Laguna.
Do not ride with anyone you don't personally know. Even then, you might want to space out your distances from other riders, as they will pull over groups. You'll then have to wait for them to check every single VIN.
Ride safe and don't get caught.

Oh yeah, traffic is nightmarish getting in or out. GPS will probably take you to the main entrance. The back entrance(s) are typically less traffic-ey and are usually motorbike-only. Do your research prior to arriving so you don't get caught up in a snarl.

At the track:
It can be cold and foggy in the AM, despite it being sunny and warm 5 miles away. Prepare accordingly.
Bring sunscreen.
Spend the morning walking the track during the warm ups so you can figure out where you want to park your butt during the main races (Corkscrew is the best, just make sure you show up early to grab a good spot).
Bring lots of food & water.
Blanket to sit on wouldn't be a bad idea if you have the space.
Ear Plugs. Don't forget the ear plugs.

Other great places to watch: T1 (the crest on the front straight); Rahal straight just before the corkscrew (nothing like seeing WSBKs howl at redline going uphill with the front tire dancing off the ground, then braking hard for T7); and you can also get a nice, unobstructed view of riders braking for T11 from within the paddock itself. If you don't have a paddock pass, get one!

The man doesn't lie. Dead gridlock traffic a few years back so all the motorcycles were going up the shoulder to meet in a large group out front of the track. The officers at the entrance would hold the group till it got big enough and then let all the bikes in at once. Kept traffic moving smoothly. Just down the road around the bend another set of officers were pulling groups of 10-20 bikes over and citing them for riding up the side of the road. I got stuck and had to wait 45 minutes for them to finish writing everyone a ticket. Complete ....... abuse of the situation. I had to do a trial by declaration but the ticket was thrown out.

Man I took my wife last year to Jerez. Best 3 days. Drove from Madrid to Portu Banus and stopped to catch the races. The Spanish were jus the opposite. You can walk just about anywhere on the track. The cops will party with you, and there are beer stands everywhere ( if your into that kind of thing....lol). Got so close to some of the turns and the back straight I scared the .... out of myself.

If you can save cash and catch races in Europe. Only disadvantage English is Barely a second language.....lol.

Really looking forward to this and watching MotoAmerica races this year. Traffic or not - its a blast and riding up there is half the fun - taking the SC this year.

See y'all on the Island!

thats the problem with communist CA. they only want to steal your money not make any money . total contrast to COTA. In TX they couldnt be friendlier, want people there and to have a good time so people go back. ill be at cota every year they have it hopefully i can ride it too.
I wouldnt go to CA for free.

It's pretty ...... up that they do that to riders. How about a rider lane only? I mean it only makes sense being that this is a motorcycle race right? Doesn't matter I'll be there regardless.
