Thanks White,
Hopefully the SL will painless, but I'm trying to be realistic on both the delivery timetable and the joy of owning an exotic high performance machine.

The adage is basically that when you acquire a machine such as this "the shop owns it, but they let you borrow it once in a while" :) I plan on leaving the SL pretty much stock (except for maybe taillight integrator, but that doesn't really count) so hopefully that reduces the pain, but we'll see... It's always worth it in the end anyway.

As for NJ - I try to avoid that state if I can help it :) Something about NYers in NJ - the troopers can just smell us coming and are wayyyy to quick to ticket. I generally ride up the Taconic, in around Bear Mountain, 301, etc. Basically almost always north of the city. Do you ever come up that way?

Really cool spot

yes i go there quite a bit and if looking for parking try Ryders Alley, Demian is a great guy.

I can vouch for Damian and the garage at Ryder's alley pretty sic and dope place! For some reason call me odd but having your bike parked there it just looks 10x better ! The Chelsea location is full but he has space on the west side... I've been in there almost took a spot but too inconvenient for me since I reside in Brooklyn but if Chelsea had spots I would do it ....

Oh man, I work in Chelsea (and live right nearby in W.Village) so having a spot there would be perfect! I didn't see anything about location there (full or otherwise) on their website - only LES and a Midtown West locations.

If you have any info on that send it my way - maybe I can get on a waitlist or something.
Thanks

Any of you fellow NY'ers have issues with NYC-sized potholes and fancy rims? I'm particularly concerned about mag wheels...

ruh roh

Exactly why I haven't purchased mag wheels

That is not reassuring! And Mg wheels are "stock" on the SL...
We've all heard the war stories and/or old-wives-tales, and sure enough on paper Mg is relatively weaker, but does anyone have any first-hand accounts of things going awry (and in a context that wouldn't have compromised a wheel made of any other material)?

I figured go big or go home... Got myself on the list for the SL, just received confirmation and put the deposit down this past week. Now all I have to do is hurry up and wait!

The only thing I can say is"¦......... AWESOME! Congrats!

i would not worry about it too much you will only be riding it in the city when either leaving or coming back in. I know for me these bikes are just too much trouble in traffic and i generally cannot wait to get off it once i hit manhattan.

Oh I totally agree. Riding in Manhattan is absolutely the worst (and has now officially damned near killed me - took some flying lessons over the top of a yellow cab after someone hit me in a very unfortunate way). That said, I still need to get on and off of this rock, and the potholes are pretty significant.

In short, how realistic is the threat of Mg wheels being compromised from said potholes?

Don't you guys just pull people out of their cars and beat the .... out of them in New York .

They will bend the same as alloy .

Only when riding with 200 friends.....;)

No no, this type is easy to spot - it's not even the number of people that they are riding with that give them away - it's how they go about it. But let's not even talk about the manner in which they operate their machines, it's a dead give-away by looking for these key elements:
  • Chrome wheels on a 1000cc+ sportbike
  • Bucket helmet, while on a 1000cc+ sportbike
  • Leather vest with patches on the back, short sleeved shirt, while on a 1000cc+ sportbike

The chrome wheels are my favorite - why take away unsprung mass when you can bling, man!
