So I needed to adjust my chain at 1600 miles on the 1200S.....it was done at the first service at 600 by the dealer first time. I'm not going to pay a dealer to just adjust my chain, if you cant do that on your own, then you should not have a motorcycle...but I digress. Soooooo.......I needed a single side rear stand and the spanner wrench tool to adjust the tension via the eccentric hub adjuster. I go to the place I bought it....ugh....no we don't have any stands in stock and we don't sell the spanner tool.....I call their other store.....same thing, Then I called two other dealers within driving range...same answer.....we don't have them in stock and we don't sell the tool. I mean WTF, you sell 27K bikes, but don't keep 1 or two rear stands in stock (pitbull or Ducati would have been fine) and you wont even carry the damm tool? So they fail again and they wonder why people don't support them much on buying accessories. So I'l just order online and get it delivered. I'll just use them to get chainlube and cleaner if I need it in a pinch.

Most dealers on the west coast don't have either of those items. Some may have a rear stand in stock (not likely) but I have never heard of a dealer having the tool to adjust the chain. I am not sure if it is a we don't want to support you doing your own maintenance or just cant compete with after market.

I ordered all the items i needed. Its going to be here by Wednesday to my front door. I went with the pitbull stand with both pins and the spanner from Motowheels. I see no reason why dealers don't keep a few of each in inventory. Its not some weird valve adjusting or fork tool that hardly gets used. I had a KTM RC8R, it had a full tool kit with it to do all regular maintenance. Even my old RC-51 had a good tool kit. I guess the Ducati dealers really expect noobs to ride over, and wait for a person wait to pay to adjust a chain.

Most "high-end" bike dealerships don't have customers who service their own bikes. Not even mundane services like oil changes and chain adjustments. However, dealers who participate in or sponsor trackdays tend to keep specialty tools in stock. A buddy of mine, Parts Manager, says the his bosses expect him to stock items that sell fast and can be added on to new bike sales. He stocks specialty items because he purveys trackday and custom bike customers. But he admitted that most of his dealerships customers (Ducati, Triumph, Moto Guzzi) are older and figure it is easier to just have them service everything so they can just ride. However, the Suzuki/Kawasaki customer will perform most of their own service. That being said, don't know why your dealership doesn't have stands. Just my $.02 cents.

Even if I wanted them to do it, I’d have to call and set it up and wait a week. Like most shops they get all backed up. Anyway when I retire soon the closest place will be four hours away so I’ll learn to do it all myself anyhow.
