In India the height of ridiculousness is there for all to see when it comes to a motorcycle..
Even though I was born there, I am not trying to be patriotic and defend things that totally defy common sense.
People carry all sorts of things on them that totally look weird from construction steel rods (most dangerous thing is following a bike or truck with these sticking out), poultry, milk cans, large sacks/boxes etc.
But this donkey/... just took things to a completely different level

Common sense is one of those fungible things that depends on circumstances.
Sure, to these western eyes that looks unsafe. But I wouldn't be willing to pass judgement on what people in that part of the world consider a necessary risk just to get by in life.
