I have had a strange issue while riding on the highway. It happened once a while back, cruising on the interstate at 70-80 mph - then a few days ago, happened 4 times during a trip on the highway (200 miles each way), same conditions, 70-80 mph after the first couple of hours.

The RPMs drop to near 0, and then surges up to a few thousand, then back down to near 0. With full throttle, only going like 20-30 mph. Constant up and down cycling no matter what I do with the throttle. As I try to limp to a ramp it slowly recovers, then is fine. May not do it again for another hour.

I have an appointment with the dealer I guess to look for some codes, as it is not reproducible.

Please provide feedback on what they say and or do..

Completely normal. Enjoy the adventure. The electrical engineering on these things is about as bad as it gets and the head scratching from the "factory technician" is equally entertaining. Hope you get it sorted.

This is part of what is wrong with my 1199.. The dealer and a few other qualified people from shavings in the oil believe its that the main bearing spun in my engine. Yours could also be a ECU issue as well.. Lmk how it works out.

What did the gauge cluster look like? Mine did something very similar and it turned out to be a loose battery connection lol

I was riding at around 70-80 kmh when all of the sudden the bike was surging and the tach looked like a xmas tree with all the different warnings coming up. It would drop rpms and then all of the sudden go back to normal. Stopped at a friends and sure enough she wouldnt start. Went to go boost and thats how i found out the negative connection to the battery was loose

I'll check it - but I thought a loose wire to a sensor - only did it a few times, and then recovered. Even at WOT, it was surging from close to zero to maybe 3-5k and back rapidly.

Dropped off today at the dealers. Hopefully will have an answer next week.
