Lowering the DB

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I was refused today at the track. 100,9 limit. Measured 102-103 db With modified db-killers.

Which track? I'm doing Spa in just over a week. Have Termi Slip Ons, will install baffles prior to the day.

I've had some contact with the trackday organisers who suggested that initial problems with the bike and noise had now been sorted & it wouldn't be a problem. Have you tracked your Pani at Spa?

I screwed if they bring in noise regs here! I reckon my system has to be at least 115db.

Im from the UK also and iv managed to get the bike on nearly every track except sub 95db,and im running full Termignonis!

Theres a few tips you must do in order to pass the noise reg:

-Make sure the bike is fully warmed up (bike db lowers when hot).
-Lean bike right over so the side being tested is facing as high as poss (the db increases as sound bounces off ground).
-Leave the bike in gear when holding the revs. (Again engine is quieter)

If you still fail with these tips, take some exhaust wadding made into small golf ball size balls and insert into slip-on then fit baffle. After noise test, remove baffle and blip throttle, the wadding will shoot out. This will pass static and bike runs no louder than 97-99db on the drive-by test

Hi,

I'm just about to book a track day at Snetterton! At what point do they do the noise testing? Is this before you go out on track for the first time or is it done at a later stage? I have the full race system and will obviously take some wadding with me!

Thanks

Dave R

Hi,

They do a static first thing which is 102db,you should pass this if you give the above a go. They have a drive by noise meter just before the pit straight, this is at 92db,again should be ok :p

Hi Guys & Girls,

Just to let you know, I did the track day at Snetterton yesterday and I had the full Termis with DB Killers in and I went for the static noise level check and when I pulled up he said " is that a Panigale?" to which I replied "yes" and he said "that will never pass a static test whatever you do so I'm not even going to bother noise testing it, it's fine on the track though!" Put the PASS sticker on the bike and said "off you go, enjoy the track".

I was really surprised after reading all the comments. I had a fun day.

Dave

Glad to here that mate as I plan on taking the Panigale to Snetterton sometime soon, thanks for posting. I've got Termi's on mine, I could be completely deluded, but they dont seem any louder than stock pipes, just a different sound? both require earplugs for longer journeys imo!

Have you taken the bike to any other UK trackdays?

Took mine to Cadwell and it was the same drill - it failed the static test, then they stuck a pass sticker on anyway because its a Panigale. Had no problem with drive by testing, assuming they were testing.

At Silverstone I've never been tested, nor have I even been tested at any of thr French tracks, although Le Mans now seems to be 101dB.

I had the same experience at Brands Hatch - they said it would fail the static test and sent me on a drive by. I was running the full termi system with the inserts and didn't have a problem with the noise all day. Apparently they don't bother testing the 1199 anymore as they know it doesn't pass the static test, even with the stock exhaust system. I don't know about the 899 though?

i`ve had these fabricated and when the db level is down to 100db we can reduce in length to suit. they are adjustable by sliding the perforated tube over the inner solid tube so there will be more levels which can be marked on the slider.

Do you have a picture with this installed?

Same in our neck of the woods. Was at a track with drive-by testing on 05 26 and was never bothered.

The way they do static tests here is the problem. The tester has to be at a 45° angle behind the bike, which makes sense on a out-the-back exhaust, but on ours it places him directly into the mufflers.

BTW, stock cans give as high a reading as Termis.

Good to hear! Was that at Mosport with the DOCC?
Had an 1198 at Mosport and Calabogie a couple of years ago. Was on the static test limit at Calabogie but not so sure the 1199 will pass. Also, I believe they've tightened the limit at Calabogie this year from 98 to 92 dB. Intend to confirm.

Same Just happened to me at Snetterton on Saturday. I'm running the full Akra system with baffles in too. The guy said if you get black flagged, then you'll just have to come in, simple as....... Never happened :)

The drive-by was at Tremblant.

The 'Bogie test is a joke, just don't rev it as much as he asks and you're good. Plus the guy packs up and leaves at 9h00
