80 shilling - if you think you won't feel the heat off the 1299 you're kidding yourself.
I'm putting on the full Akra system and will see how it goes. My triumph Daytona 675R puts out some serious underseat heat and I can deal with it. As long as the heat is just a bit better than the first gen 1199 I rode, I think I'll be fine.

The new 1199 heatshield and head covers helped a lot in that respect, and the thicker 899 seat did as well. I expect the 1299 will be much the same as the post-upgraded 1199. If you want more, it would be easy to apply some thermal lining to the bottom of the seat. I had a 675 too, and they did pump some heat from the up-pipe. Tended to cook the regulator in hot climates!

It's good to Yamaha have built a really cutting edge superbike again, like other people have said there really isn't much in it between it and the 1299, and really there isn't with price now either.

I think it's going to be interesting to see where the new RSV4 comes in these shootouts, as an owner of the old model I can say the handling and engine are phenomenal, the new one with the same power as the new R1,1299 etc is going to be a great package.
I was considering a new R1 but really, I think I've gone off Japanese bikes, going to be a new Aprilia for me, I think the main thing this article says to me though, is that you can't really go wrong with any of them.
Still need to scratch the Panigale itch at some point though, it's still the best looking bike out there by Miles!.

I just know that I may actually be more excited to see SSTK1000 racing next round than WSBK. All the new models will be present.

On a hot day the Akra gets just as hot as the OEM. Last long ride I did on a 32 c day a few months ago (thats the middle of Summer here) it was so hot on the way home around 3pm, I was riding with my right heel on the outer edge of the foot peg to get some space between exhaust and my leg.

One of the first times I was really affected by the heat on the bike. I was wearing Dainese leather pants. It was a hot day but there was no difference in the Akra or the old OEM. I even have an extra layer of reflective anti heatsheilding which I put on the underside of the CF heat shield. Like the other poster says get ready for the heat in Summer on your 1299.

Having said that, I would still buy one.

I had a 2011 675R.

Trust me, the Panigale is WAYYYYY hotter. In fact, even with ceramic coating the exhaust, running heat tape on the seat and changing my radiator fluids, it is still hotter than the 675R.

I expect nothing different for the 1299.

Still great bikes of course.

I have a 2014 1199S and personally think the seat heat is overrated.

Lol 675 heat is nothing compared to an 1199. I had a 2010 675SE with an Akrapovic slipon and it wasn't hot AT ALL. The 1199 introduced me to the true meaning of the word "hot".

These lap times are so stupid. We're talkin about the difference of a fraction of 1 second. Decimal points. Price of a bike is irrelevant here. If a particular bike moves you in some way shape or form, best believe you will find a way to justify the price, be it $18k for the R1 or $34k for the 1199R. Majority of us buy bikes based on aesthetics...visual appeal. The fraction of this forums and other forums population may actually base their purchase decisions on actual performance capabilities but those exact same riders can extract every last bit on the last place bike and still do better than 99% of riders out there. Therefore, all that performance crap is irrelevant, especially since so many riders ride on public streets and don't even track their bikes. If a bike manufacturer released a bike that was literally the best looking liter bike and it only cost $5000 brand new, that's the bike I would be purchasing. I didn't buy an 1199 because it's one of the most expensive bikes but it certainly gave me a hard on when i saw it and i had to have it. The price was an afterthought.

Magazines have to find a way to sell more magazines. Good or bad news, the opinion of a rider/writer must get published because so many viewers are patiently waiting for these opinions.

Are we forgetting that the 1229 makes more horse power and more torque at the rear wheel that any of the others bone stock :d, and it also looks way better that all of them???

Also, a lot of moto journalists are ex professional racers. There are very few of us ordinary people who can get anywhere near their times.

I rather enjoy my chestnuts being roasted on an open fire. JK. Its not that hot.

The heat on the 1199 is gone if you have the full termi with the V2 shield and the vertical cylinder covers. I could even touch the shield while it was running. My RSV4 was considerably hotter.

Just like how we go for looks and passion, a lot on this thread run the akras, which are arguably worse than the 1199 exhausts with the first gen heat shields.

I will say it one more time, you guys are complaining about heat from a race bike ridden on the street. On the track, no heat issues.

Mark...are you saying crack is bad??? Looks like the R is covered with it...

let me restate ducati must be on crack with the price. it looks so good though how can you not want it.

i hope and hope the next ducati bike is a v4 with pani looks and of course tri paint.

Anybody know the final results? This was just the track portion. Bmw came in second overall where did the rest come in just curious as the op didn't say it was just the track portion.

I think R1, BMW 1299 overall. They think the R1 and BMW are better road bikes. Good thing I dont give a .... about all the road stuff. I think its pointless to worry about what they feel like on the road. They are race bikes. And before anyone comes in with the "95% of people don't ride on the track" statement. I know.....

Agreed and that's why I decided not to get the R1 this year. My work schedule is going to make it difficult for track days and I didn't think it made much sense to use a bike designed for the track on the road. I wanted to try a bike that was designed for the road... hence my new, fat, 14R.

At the end of the day the Ducati is still better looking and sounds the part as well. However the cross-plane engine sounds pretty wicked with a tune and a pipe.

The looks and styling of some of the brands just doesn't do it for me my 2003 GSX-R was the last Japanese bike I plan on owning.

Would love to see the KTM's getting back in the game but they have some wild styling as well.
