Why does he get such violent shaking when pinned on the straights?

...I guess if it were a simple answer they'd have addressed it already :)

I remember last season hearing a commentator say that Melandri gets the wobble because he is so light.

Yeah they cant fix it as of now they have tried shifting his weight around, thicker taller seat no fix. ..... crazy to watch that's for sure.

It is frightening, I was yelling at the TV for Melandri to stop in race 2 in Thailand, I was sure he would crash big time.

It is really strange as both the other 2 Ducati’s in front of him were perfect.

I thought it may have been a Philip Island thing as that is such a fast circuit, but it seems worse in Thailand.

Ducati need to sort that out and quick.

They increased the foam in his seat so he could push down on the tail with his butt. Didn't work. It gets so violent, he has to back off and ultimately lost the chance to get a podium. Happy for Davies but Marco needs to get it sorted before he loses more than points.

I would need to change my leathers after each race...

Weird thing is I don't remember it being that violent with death wobbles last season.

As much as we want to believe that the factory teams are at the pinnacle of bike setup and evolution. The reality is it's still a compromise to get a bike set up for each rider. It's likely they are giving him something else he wants with turn in or front end feel, that is throwing up all kinds of problems with the back end. As Flobrandx said, it wasn't doing it last season, so my best guess would be they found something he likes that has a huge negative associated with it and haven't figured out how to keep the good aspect and get rid of the bad. Otherwise they would just go with last years settings.

Granted, I'm slow, don't get paid to set bikes up and did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I started a post last year , finish of WSBK season , about Melandri's bike weave. Search MELANDRI. Can anyone thow in some theories as to what they think is causing the wobble. I still think it may be tires set for his weight ?

i really think it's how the rear shock is connected to the swing arm. They been working on the swing arm through everyone iteration of the bike.

Check out 12:30 on this footage. Big wobble getting on the gas out from T12 at Phillip Island. My bike has been doing the same . Mike and I used my #98 last year in an endurance race that ended up cancelled after qualifying due to a storm.

Mike Jones #1 finished 5th in the WSSTK championship last year on the Aruba It factory Ducati , His team mate Rinaldi winning. The top 6 guys are only 2 seconds off Rea - Davies etc , so pretty high standard in ASBK at the moment.

I back off when it starts, but it gets worse the longer you keep it pinned. Even Marco is shutting off the throttle , but man he takes it to the limit 1st .

According to MCN this week it's a combination of:
Light front end
Crosswinds
Melandris small frame.

However More fingers are being pointed at an aero issue with melandri onboard. Seem plausible As Davies and Forres aren't affected. Apparently at the Thai round it was so bad it made it hard to breathe! I reckon it made things easier to take a dump in his leathers though!

I'm light and mine does the same thing, not quite as bad as Melandri but then I'm not going as fast.

Cheers
