Michelin power cup 2 - thoughts?

Just got a set of Michelin power cup 2 tires. Previously really enjoyed the pirelli trackday supercorsa but i was wearing them down the center by 1000 miles. Looks like Michelin uses 2 carbon black compounds so possibly get more mileage out of them without sacrificing feel and performance when silica is used. This is being used on the street and twisties.

Additionally i noticed that the 200/55 in the power cup 2 is sized and shaped similar to the 200/60 of the pirelli trackday supercorsa rather than a traditional 200/55.

Update:

60 degree day. Easy initial 50 miles then turned up the pace with very good results so far.

Front tire is very linear in behavior. Stable while upright and confidence inspiring at all lean angles. Grip more than what i can use on the street / twisties. Trail braking with ease. Slightly slow when doing switch backs but that's comparing a sharper profile tire. No more twitchy feeling on the nose.

Rear tire grips in all circumstances. Can exit smoothly if needed or can handled a late corner with a squared exit with full throttle application.

Used cold pressures of 30.5 psi front and 22.0 psi rear. Tires when cold feel digital but warm up quickly and then communicate a feeling of confidence and grip.

Will try to follow up again once worn down to share mileage experience and behavior in cold or damp conditions.

Got 1500 miles out of rear tire!! That's a lot more than i expected. Front doesn't even look worn. Wear on rear much better across the tire rather than in the center. In wet or dirty the slick area does move but predictable. Great tire in dry conditions. It'll get you home safe in wet with the center treads but have to respect that it's a slick on the sides. Highly recommend for performance and value.

Thinking of giving the Michelin Power RS series a go. I've had Q3's, S21's and Q4's on my 1199S, but haven't tried anything else on my previous V4S and now my current 2020 V4S. STG has pretty good prices on all tire now, and my OEM front Supercorsa is needing replaced.

Any thoughts from the folks who have tried the Michelin's?

There’s a thread on here with members who have ran them. Do you know how the advanced search works? Not being sarcastic. Someone had to show me : )

I have never tried them but plan to. Lemme know if ya need help searching

Yes

But it might be easier to crack the new ecu’s than the search feature here

I used the power rs on two bikes. Mv agusta f3 800 like them very much. Ducati 1199s tricolore not so much. Basically the Michelin increases stability which the MV benefited from. The Ducati does better with a quicker tire handling wise.

Any other updates on the cup 2? I know it’s been awhile but thinking of getting some for my 1199s. What are they like for hard road riding, grip, feel etc? Have you had the Q5’s or SP V4?

The power cup 2 tires are very good for those who do trackways, or split their time between road and track. They don’t tend to move much and offer good feedback. Some riders love the front end feel, I think it’s good, but not great. Grip is excellent and there are some who race on this tire.

I still use the power cup 2. To me its a great tire for most track day riders. I use them as a winter tire. Meaning, temps between 55 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The pirelli supercorsa trackday is better, but i use them when ambient temps above 90. The 1199 has a firm rear spring, so it pairs well with the softer carcass of the pirelli. Front is more aggressive, which also pairs well with a late trail braking technique. But, the pirelli wears quicker.

So, ask yourself if you ride in a way that the pirelli suits you. You need to ride hard enough that you can create that heat and keep that heat given the ambient temps.

One thing for sure is you need to use trackday tire pressure for the 1199.

What tyres would you use? Especially for hard street riding?

So does the suspension of the 1199 still suit the cup 2? The trackday pressures are they 30,5f 22r cold? I’m glad to see that they’re a good winter tyre as we’re about to ascend into coldness here where i live. Any thoughts on the Q5’s?

I think the Cup 2 or Q5 would be fine, among others for the street. My street riding is no where near as fast as my track riding, but those tires do fine at the track as well. Don’t over think it. Go with what’s a good deal / available in your area.

Yes, it works well for the 1199 with 30.5 f and 22r.
I haven't used the Q5. I've used other dunlops but i found them to be stiff in carcass and some quality issues. I think it was the Q3 and Q3+.
