Well seems I'm finally getting my fair share of problems with the ducati.

On friday I went for a ride to the coffee shop. 10 minutes later i tried to start the bike.... nothing. Kicked over for ages (brand new battery). I gave it 5 minutes of trying, walked away and came back 10 minutes later... started immediately!

2 minutes down the road, i came to a stop, and the bike stalled. tried to restart it, but nothing, just kept kicking over.... realised i was pretty screwed here, spent 20 minutes trying to start it and drained the battery...

towed it home, put it on the charger and got the battery back up. yesterday tried to start it, first go bam comes to life like usual. But 3 minutes later, it starts hunting at idle, then it stalls.

tried to restart it immediately, and nothing... come back 1 hour later, again starts immediately, but within a few minutes it starts hunting then dies...

I thought maybe the charcoal canister is the problem (have heard of them being an issue) but previous owner had it removed after I took off the fairings and noted it was gone.

Bike recently had major service about 6 weeks ago, and ran flawlessly. Tuneboy and cruise control are installed. I have done nothing to the bike since, except the side stand sensor broke a fortnight ago. (made a jump until i got the new one the other day and is now fitted as standard).

Any one know where tf i should start?

Video of stall below, i will post the longer 4 minute video of the whole process later when it uploads.

I would remove the tune boy if possible and ride it to see if the problem goes away .
Sorry if this is not an option I'm not sure what it takes to remove a tune boy.

eliminate the obvious and what you have left is the culprit

I would guess if it is not hardware/software related (tuneboy) then I would look for a loose wire . especially ground wires

Maybe a faulty O2 sensor. Or try making sure the side stand sensor is installed correctly. Take it off and put it back on.

Tuneboy is basically a reflash of the ecu. It allows the owner to flash/tune and return the ecu to stock. Flashes normally dont get corrupt or cause problems like piggyback controllers.

If the bike was ok right after the tuneboy flash and just started acttng up then id look at sothing else.

Is there any check engine light or icon when it stalls i cant see in the video. I does sound like it is looseing fuel eventhough you can still hear the pump prime at the end. A slow dieout like that is usually fuel system related. Ignition concerns usually cause the engine to shutoff without a slow drop in rpm. I would check fuel pressure first. Hook up a gauge at the quick connect under the tank and run the bike until it stalls an see what the fuel pressure does.

Just for ..... and giggles have you tried using the tuneboy trim to reset throttle and acelerator positions...it is in the tools menu.

I did not know that about the tuneboy . makes sense to me

Ducati's can sometimes get the fuel tank vent plugged or pinched .

this will cause a vacuum to form inside the tank leaving the bike starved for fuel. after a few minutes the positive fuel pressure will form in the tank and it will start up again.

the way to check for this is to open the fuel cap when you experience the no start problem look for a suction and see if it starts after you have closed the cap.

in some cases aftermarket fuel caps , debris in the vent hole or pinched vent hoses can be the culprit

Hello guys,

WRT tuneboy, installed by Pro Twin Australia and I'm more than satisfied they would have done it perfectly and was running normal so I would not suspect flash to go dodgy.

vacuum in the fuel tank might be the cause, will have to check it out!

have checked side stand sensor, installed and functions as it should.

Is it running out of electricity? so the spark is failing?

I can highly recommend Antony at Corse Motorcycles in Bayswater

If you need someone to help you diagnose it.

When you put the key back in, you didn't even let the fuel pump have a chance to pump the fuel thru!

Australian models do not come with a charcoal canister

regardless of waiting 0.1 seconds from turning the key, or a minute, or 10, result is the same after the stall will not start.

Will take it to Pro Twin as Justin is who I normally use and he always goes out of his way to help.
