Most stupid Bling thing ever?

I need to get on the titanium bandwagon.. currently only rotor bolts, all 3 calipers, brake/clutch master pinch bolts, and fork pinch bolts.

You have many more to go.......and lots more money to spend but it is fun.

So on this weight saving thing ? Can we all list our own weight? Drilling bolts and shaving a gram here and there?
I weigh 72kg, how does it compare with other Pani riders? Not sure I need to claw back weight advantage yet ...

But Gecko I love your engineering skills, myself a man who loves to play with the cnc mill and lathe.

Sorry Gecko my old friend. No prizes for second place. I already took my OEM one out and hand painted the top gold. I also drilled out the centre to save weight. I could not measure the weight difference however as my scale only goes to 1/10 gram. LOL

Dear Brad,
I couldn't resist.... :)
Had to put blind holes into the screws.

(BTW all my scales show 0g, both for "old" and "new" ones :))

reminds me of an old engineer joke where the japanese present the smallest diameter drill bit at an expo.

the swiss come and say wait, let us cross-drill that.

the japanese are baffled.

then ze germanz come and ask the swiss if they'd allow them to tap a thread into that cross-drilled hole :D

on another note, Gecko, have you tackled that heavy-... horn yet? it must be at least 736 grams.

Not much technical is going on currently on this forum. So, after a bottle of red wine I decided to present you the most useless piece of bling I ever did to my Panigales: The TTX rear shock expansion vessel valve cover screw!!!

I just cut down a PodiumRacing windscreen Ti bolt.

Pictures from left to right: "old" and "new" screws, old setup, new setup

This makes your bike at least 0.5g lighter! :) :)

mad genius like mozart

Yep, I hate this freaking claxon!!!!
Bought some 0.5mm Ti sheets for laser cutting for the bracket. But I still haven't found any (pseudo-)homologated horn yet :(
Seems that CEV (manufacturer, belongs to ZADI group) also is a good old member of the mob :(

wow!

but since the one in the link is only 2" in diameter, it should weigh considerably less...

Lookie what showed up in my mailbox!

@gecko is the man! Wouldn't even let me pay for this little guy, he even kept the girlfriend happy with the chocolates that came with it!

As we all know, I can't say enough good about this guy!

I am still working on the SL. She is still not lighter than my race Panigale. My goal is to get nearer to the weight region where Endodoc has gone.
To be specific the SL should go below 160kg in street legal configuration, including all lights, blinkers, all fluids, fuel, number plate and other useless stuff.
I hope that I reach this goal in Q3 of this year...

I got mine down to 167 - not sure how a base could get to 160.

gecko, that bolt that holds the front air intake is as heavy as a car. not sure what it is made of on the SL, but there's 70% that can be dropped there...

Trauma: It's tough, you are absolutely right. It's also a question on how people measure. Horrible mess, even Ducati plays with the numbers....

For me, I weight the bike with all fluids and 5l of fuel (ready to ride, I guess there is a professional expression to it). I am now at 163kg, street legal with kick stand, turn indicators, ABS unit, number plate, LED head light, mirror, horn, and all the other ....). I am still waiting for the SICOM brake disks. Don't want CF wheels on the SL, I love the mag ones. Guess I will change the fork to CF and ceramic to reach my goal. My dream would be to get one of Endodocs rear wheel axles.

All details count and you have to look at every stupid part :(

Phl: Completly different on the SL. On my other bikes, I already manufactured these weirdo bolts in Ti. But you are right, nobody sells these...

I use a Ti socket cap screw there with a shoulder spacer on the big end i made from magnesium. Super light and easy to make

Anything that I cant buy, I just make on the mini lathe. I get the Ti, Mg and 7075 from Online Metals (it comes with paperwork). I just started getting M5, M6 and M8 threaded Ti rod from a company in the UK so I can make studs for things I remove a lot (clutch cover etc) so I don't have to keep going in and out of aluminum. A guy in Russia also made me some awesome Ti studs and 12 point nuts for the calipers. Perfect indexing and again I dont have to take bolts out of the forks as the Monoblocks need to be cleaned pretty frequently.
