Moving my Akra from 899 to 1299 - is the USB up map needed?

Hi,
After two fantastic years on my 899 I'm now switching to a 1299 S :)

I installed the Akrapovic Evolution Full Exhaust on my 899 and it worked perfect together with only a Sprint Filter. No up map was needed.

Now my Ducati workshop says they can also fit my old Akra system on the 1299. But from 2016 you also get an USB key (up map) when you buy the Akra Full Exhaust from Ducati.

These USB's are not for sale separately, it's only included when you buy the 2016 "Ducati branded" Akrapovic Evolution.

Will I need this to get the maximum out of my bike?

Cheers,

Anders

Up map is not "essential " - but yes, it would allow more power gains and a better combustion overall. But what would be even better : an auto-tune solution, like the rapid bike module ;)

What Phl said. I fitted the full Akra Evo to my 1299 and ran it for a while without the UPMAP. It was fine but a definite improvement when the UPMAP was loaded.

If you do decided you want better fuelling (recommended) I wouldn't go the UPMAP/Dealer route (UPMAP stick now has to be loaded by dealer). A better solution would be either Rapidbike as Phl suggested or Tuneboy, the file you flash to the ECU from them has the RACING EVO UPMAP already unlocked.

You need to take a ferry to Finland, in Helsinki area you can get Rexxer tuning in dyno. Rexxer is able to adjust OEM fuel charts, so no additional cheat box like PCV is required.

If you can afford it go PCV with autotune. The cheapie option is Rapidbike. :D

Why is PCV better than rapid bike? Money aside, I would have thought the multiple modules for PCV is "kludgy" rather than price premium. This a real question, not forum sarcasm, as I am about to purchase a rapid bike race module.

I can only recommend the Tuneboy route. No extra boxes or harnesses, full control over each cylinder, and the local tuner loved it! The auto TPS hold was an absolute gem for roll on tuning :)

Thanks everybody for taking time to answer my questions, appreciate your help!

Still some questions,

"¢ If I chose to go with Tuneboy, shall I order only the "Tuning kit"?
"¢ Do I need to run it in a dyno or does it have presets for 1299 with an Akra Full Exhaust?
"¢ Did anyone get any error codes on the bike after installing this?
"¢ Does anyone know how long it takes to get this shipped from Australia to Europe?
"¢ Is there any dealer in Europe that ships to Sweden?

Thanx :)

1) Do you ride on the road? Tuning only if it's just the track however the cruise control is a really neat feature and doesn't cost much more. Never thought I'd use it but on some longer journeys I've been glad of it. If you decide to get both you want Cruise and Tune.

2) When you flash the ECU you select the full Akra file. This unlocks the UPMAP (when you turn the bike on you'll get RACING EVO on the dash). This means you have the Ducati map for the full Akra system. If you want to tune on top of this you can do, personal opinion is its best done on the dyno. A few of us have had custom tunes for the full Akra, there is a similar trend whereby the lower end is lean, top end rich and similar gains are seen. Tuneboy supply a custom tune for the full Akra done by Boulder Motorsports.

3) No error codes. You can return the bike to stock when visiting the dealer if you are concerned about warranty. Not heard of anyone having a problem.

4) It took about 2 weeks for my kit to arrive from Australia.

5) Tuneboy list X-Bikes in the UK as a distributor but I'm not sure if they keep kits in stock.

There is a lot of information on Tuneboy on the forum, largely positive but some downsides. I'd recommend reading a few of the threads on here regarding Tuneboy and Rapidbike then making a decision.

Completely up to you. I love the cruise control feature on highway commutes though.
"¢ Do I need to run it in a dyno or does it have presets for 1299 with an Akra Full Exhaust?
It has the same presets as a standard upmap, the upmap key you are getting is only that: A key that unlocks a map that is already in your ecu. You can go with auto tuning if you get the wideband O2 sensors, but I'd recommend a proper dyno tune. I gained 6 hp up top, removed the low/mid dip, and got a much smoother engine coming off idle after a proper tune.
"¢ Did anyone get any error codes on the bike after installing this?
No
"¢ Does anyone know how long it takes to get this shipped from Australia to Europe?
I ordered express, took 4 days to Norway
"¢ Is there any dealer in Europe that ships to Sweden?
There is one in Germany, but I ordered from Australia :)

Rapidbike comes with autotune? Or is that what 'Youtune' is and need to be bought seperately?

So a tuneboy is a flash?
