You know your right. I joined this place hoping to collaborate with people doing what I was doing and wanted to do. Fortunately I was able to meet a few of them and we coorispond privately. A public forum is obviously not the place for a lot of what I post. I get it so I'm out. My whole point that was completely missed is you have a motorcycle company that over hyped and over charged their customers for the simple fact that their customers didn't know any better and to show what they should have gotten for their money. Value. I know What a stupid concept. This place taught me what is really important to customers and I will take that into consideration in upcoming biz ventures. Thanks for the education.

oh come on, Ducati was never a value proposition and their LE bikes in last decade were always even less so, and usually a best case questionable investment. Ducati's are about "passion" LOL

edit: and like i said here weeks ago, this new SL makes the original SL look like the best bang for buck, if you are into LE bikes -- for my money, i'd get a slightly used 2016 R (there are a few of them out there hugely discounted btw), make a few minor mods and call it a day.

every single time whenever ducati come up with new LE bike there are always ppl debating whether its worth to spend extra 10-40k for "little" improvement and talking about bang for the buck. It all comes down to ppl who has money and willingness to pay xtra 10-40k for "little" improvement. for regular ppl who thinks 80k is something then it is non of their business. to make something that is already almost perfect to make it even more perfect it will cost. then it is back to the 1st question. you got money? you willing to pay that money to have the best? it is up to you. so drop all this bs talking .... about oh it is not worth it or not. this is same for everything. house, cars, instruments, drawings. arts. to have the best it is not about bang for the buck. it is about your passion on that item and your bank account.

.....while some of you rewrite the rules on the essence of capitalism, rebuilding, remaking, "reinventing the wheel".....I'll be riding the latest and greatest of my choice and pay the asking price, partly because it keeps the Motorcyle world rolling and I don't mind paying up for being part of the party...keeping dealers busy and ready to serve and essentially because it's the right thing to do - I'm not trying impress this upon others to do, but being a Full Retail Guy helps keep everyone in the game

I also buy my milk, cheese, & butter at the supermarket

Let's also acknowledge that was an out of the box, zero setup lap time, they didn't have the bike setup or anything bear where the 1199 SL was when it set the lap it did.

I doubt that very much.

Unless Ducati says otherwise I would guess that's a 1299SL with slicks, race compound brake pads, and a set up from Ducati Corse.

Not even magazines test on street tires and they certainly don't use out of the crate setup either.

The 1299SL IMHO, was never conceived to justify it's price to the masses. Ducati work on the premise that if you throw enough money in their direction you'll get a slice of something that merely skims the surface of WSBK levels of performance but crucially with the lure of some air of exclusivity thrown in for good measure. I don't believe they are that bothered by public opinion, as they no doubt have a ready and willing queue of potential buyers. Anyone purchasing this bike is buying into the notion that this is the best that is on offer right now and hang the cost and for most people in a position to spend 80K, that's all that matters. It's doubtless a quick bike and a head turner but it won't rattle any cages other than at semi-professional levels, as beyond that you need a much, much bigger budget to compete. For most mere mortals though, it's more than adequate.
