Neck Brace ?

Curious has anyone used a neck brace while riding on the street?
and if so which one ..

thanks

Can you clarify what you mean by neckbrace? As in, the kind of thing you get from neck trauma (unrelated to motorcycling in general).

If so, it sounds like you should stay away from sportbikes for a while. Any neck brace that would allow you to get into a tuck position while wearing a helmet and a jacket, is clearly not doing its job - and there is no practical way to sit upright on the 1199.

On a side note, are you OK?

I am clearly out of the loop on rider protection. Has this been proven to actually do anything?

Bought a Leatt STX RR this winter and been using it on track and on the road this season. Haven't crash tested it yet (fortunately), but it is comfortable to wear and I don't notice it when riding at all.

Lmao to your first comment

Yes it has been proven to keep the helmet from pushing back to far and rotating too far in a crash.

I'm still having a hard time reasoning about this... In a full tuck there is not much room at all.. in fact, one of things i LOVE about my SR-1 helmet is that the back is tapered so as not to interfere with the aero hump on my back. I still need lateral movement of my head to look through a turn.

So a neck protector of sorts, doesn't have a lot of room to keep the motion of your head restricted, because it's necessary to have it largely unrestricted to begin with. Combine that with the fact that when you high side, you are in anything BUT a full tuck (head/neck straight or extended) and I fail to see how these things could work at all.

Just bought a Leatt STX as well. Haven't tried it on the road yet but was hoping to run it on a trip up to Montreal over Labor Day weekend.

Will give feedback when I get back.

ETA: Reason I bought it was a friend was killed on his 899 the other day by doing a stoppie in traffic and putting himself into a guard rail. I'll take all the help I can get.

i have a leatt neck brace and use it exclusively for dirtbiking.

they do limit your movement on the bike but are used a huge amount in dirtbiking and mtb as they help reduce hyper flexion, hyperextension and axil loading.

som of the new suits and jackets are compatable with neck braces

I can see how a neck brace could/would work for dirt tracking - mostly because your body position is upright, and therefore amenable to better neck support (even at the cost of some freedom of movement).

Still struggling to see how it works in way that is compatible with a tuck position

Never on the street but always on the dirtbike. Saved me on sunday, big wreck and the neckbrace stopped my head from kicking all the way back and hitting the ground. When you think about it, yeah on track and the street its a great idea but they are super restrictive on the street so im not a fan. I would maybe run one on the track but that would be track only.

It will probably help on tourers and cruisers, but will not work on a super bike.

It works fine on a superbike, and was developed with Colin Edwards in MotoGP. You can't use the large off road versions on a superbike, but the STX RR is not noticable in a tuck on the panigale.

I guess the full race airbags systems on the race suits are even better than a brace, but for the moment they are a bit too expensive for me, so I found the brace a worthwhile addition to the safety gear package to use while on the bike.

I also wear the Air Bag vest - you do not notice you are wearing it. This has been tested in real life and has saved lives. I think any protection you can have is worth while

i just started wearing the H.I.T. Airbag vest.

i don't think a more or less rigid neck thingy would suit me. in full tuck i already bump the helmet on the hump.

for MX i see this making sense.
