Neck Brace ?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

It works fine on a superbike, and was developed with Colin Edwards in MotoGP. You can't use the large off road versions on a superbike, but the STX RR is not noticable in a tuck on the panigale.

I guess the full race airbags systems on the race suits are even better than a brace, but for the moment they are a bit too expensive for me, so I found the brace a worthwhile addition to the safety gear package to use while on the bike.

Colin never won though, just saying.

Totally agree with the above that the airbag system makes wayyyy more sense. Neck brace feels like a gimmick that people get "guilted" into: e.g. "I'll take all the help I can get!" even if that help is very dubious.

I love my current leathers/armor setup, and have had it for years (with repairs along the way) but I will be ditching it for something new once the airbag system matures a bit

For those wearing an airbag vest - did it fit under your existing setup or did you have to make other changes?

i was worried that it bothers me too much, but it's pretty alright.

in full tuck it gets squeezed in between hump and helmet (SR-1, too), upright it's not an issue.

as soon as i have my riser bars installed i don't expect it to be any issue any more. on the GROM it's already a breeze.
(plus people look like WTF - little bike / full gear / airbeg vest? LOL)

the neck brace is no gimmick, if you ride dirt it makes total sense on street bikes not so much due to it restricting your movement.

the Airvest is great and works well as haivng that technology built into a suit is at least $2500 and then on certain suits if it goes off the manufacturer has to reinstall the vest.

Dainese are bringing out there range of D system with the airvest built in and RS Taichi have been doing it for a long time with their high end suits but i believe its trickling down into some of their jackets.

£600 for the Helite Air Jacket and 17 pound to replace compressed air canister when it goes off as I found out 1 month ago.

In spain on my Multistrada
Had pulled up outside a cafe - there were some beautiful half dressed ladies having afternoon drinks so my friend called that as our stopping spot

I pulled up and as I was putting the stand down the bike got very heavy and I ended up laying it down on its side - unknown to me my friends boot had loosed and when he pulled up his ankle went over and he fell off and was leaning against my bike.

I was thrown from the bike and landed on my back
Looking at the sky I was unable to move and panic struck - i thought I had broken my back
After a moment of realising there was nothing hurting and a lot of wiggling around like an up turned turtle - simply my airbag had gone off as i was thrown from the bike.

The air slowly subsides and I could move again and got up to see my friend under his bike still shouting me to help and my Multistrada still running killing him with fumes.

After we got the bikes back up I had a small scratch to the tank fairing and no other damage.

But the scene was hilarious - still giggling about it now

The jacket was so good that my helmet never met the floor and i felt absolutely nothing from the fall

To be clear, I full understand the value in the dirt (as mentioned previously), but when factoring in the compromises required for it to work in a tuck, it feels like a gimmick for race posture (street or track).

I bet the ladies were so very impressed with your grand entrance, too. :-D

If I was a cop you would be the first bike I would pull over lol.. That sounds way to ready to have too much fun :D

I tried the first street version of the Leatt but could never get it to fit right without impeding my ability to turn my head. Probably my fault and I have read that the current version is less restrictive.

Instead I now use the Helite airbag vest mentioned above.
