New Addition?

I was putting some mileage on my V4S today (second service on Friday) and stopped by my Ducati dealership and saw the V4R. Those huge gills are no doubt shedding some major heat.

Something told me to stop by my BMW dealership. When I got there my friend said he had something bright and shiny to show me, but not to get too excited. Turns out they received a 2020 S1000RR with the M package yesterday. I asked if it was sold, and he said no. Turns out it will be a prominent BMW racer's new bike. That's why I wasn't to get too excited, I couldn't have it. I asked my friend how much the bike would run with the M package, and he felt it would be 23-24K. I went ahead and put a refundable deposit down on one with the M package.

The racer will be doing some kind of introduction to the new bike in July/August with the lead BMW engineer, where they'll discuss all of the technology and what not. The bikes won't come until August/September so I guess I have a decision to make. Keep the 2016 RR as a commuter and add another bike to the garage. Trade/sell the 2016 RR. Trade/sell the R1M. Not an easy decision.

The nice thing is I got to look closely at the new bike. It feels noticeably lighter and the dimensions are about the same. I was afraid it would be too cramped, but it was fine.

I much prefer the tightness, compactness of my PaniR and R1M over the roominess and sluggish handling of the 17 S1000RR I had.
I vote to trade the S1000RR in and give the 2020 a go.
But then I'm only 5'7". My 6'+ friends enjoy the fit of the S1000RR better.
If the new one fits you, go for it.

Funny, I feel in slow speed turns and manuevering between vehicles, I like the RR better than my R1M. I'm not sure I've given the R1M a fair shake, as it has a bit under 4K miles, but I sure have tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. Does the seat height of the R1M not bother you? I'm right at 6 foot, long legs and it always feels too high to me. The dimensions of the new RR are almost identical to the old one. I'm jealous that you have the 2018 R1M, as I hate the one-way blipper. That and the brakes are my two biggest complaints.

I am kind of leaning towards getting rid of the 2016 RR, as I don't think I need two of them. I honestly can't justify 3 bikes, let alone 4, as I have compression fractures in my lower vertabrae, so I don't get out on the weekend as much as I used to. I'd also take a bath on the R1M, and I'm inclined to keep it and mod it a bit to see if I can learn to live with it.

Yeah the seat height is tall so it’s a bit of a reach to the ground. Tallest seat height I’ve had on a streetbike other than my plated CR500 lol. The stock brake pads kinda suck. I’ll probably change those out sometime in the future.
As for power1 on off jerking, I’ve already had mine flashed by 2WheelDynoworks so it’s now super smooth. That and an AR GP2R 3/4 system was good for a 20 rwhp gain.

You being taller and most likely of bigger stature than I, can probably benefit from some wider set clipons.

See im different there, body types make a big difference.

Im 6'1 225 pounds an the s1000rr feels alot better to me than my 1299.

Oh just read the rest of your reply, see you agree lol.
Btw i have no idea how anyone can ride their panigales without stompgrips.
Makes a world of a difference.

I bought the RR in March of 2017 and the R1M in April, so the weak brakes on the R1M really stood out immediately. If I keep the R1M I'm going to do a decat pipe, a flash, a blipper and replacement brake pads on the front. The Power 1 is really sensitive. In a slow speed corner with bumps it's a liability IMHO. In addition to the seat being high, it feels like a 2X4.
