ok so during AMA weekend i was at my usual place with Yamaha talking to the guys but always observing. Josh wears arai so nothing new there corsair x, and garett wears shoei nothing new there.

camron wears bell however and i have a few bells and a few shoei but after really looking at the helmet i was like what is that. not even close to the bell star i have now or any of the stars for that matter. then i see filmores helmet again just like cams. finally jake gagne again not like mine but just like the other two.

anyway i see cam in the trailer we talk about the race but i forgot to ask about the helmet. so when i get home i start looking at pictures and sure enough i wasnt crazy (on this issue anyway). i call Gunny he says has to be some custom stuff. i know bell does custom sizing but custom helmets i dont see that going over well as a marketing plan (i know arai wont make anything custom everyone gets the same or they kick you out)

i call bell and indeed they are going to be the new bell stars. from what i gather they will be adding a bell star pro and a bell star race (dont know which is the more track one) i also dont know whats happening to the star and the star carbon but there will be more choices from bell next year.

I love my bell star since I got it at a steal during black friday but my next helmet will for sure be the 2015 Misano AGV Rossi helmet....unless of course it's a $1000. I just hope it's a corsa and in the 600-700 range.

I own a Corsa and considering it's still in the $800 range I highly doubt this year's Misano helmet will be cheaper. Great helmet though.

Ebay has them for 800 shipped. I usually buy from ridersdiscount. You can check with them if you'd like. You're right. It's usually the winter test that's much cheaper than any of the others but some european websites may be cheaper too. I found my held titan evo gloves on a european website and got a pair for 270 when they sell for 400 retail. Just gotta research.

It depends on the deal/relationship you have with your sponsor some will be very stringent on the deal and others are happy to supply the product and you can do what you want with it as long as you follow certain guidelines on where you put their logo's, but these are all depended on the team and personality.

It will be an interesting season in 2016 and hopefully more teams

there are a lot of very impressive helmets out there, especially as carbon composite technology matures. Crazy light, I'm talking featherweight.

I wish I could be a helmet whore, but I get psychologically hung up on everything being interchangeable. I got the first signature Ben Spies HJC, and ended up getting two more so that I wouldn't have to have separate shield sets for each helmet. It's a great helmet but a bit loud, it was light and compact at the time but that was five years ago. One thing you won't know until you own one - it only likes certain windscreens. It's perfectly stable on my 1299, but when I went to an MRA SBK screen on my old S1000RR, turbulence would cause the helmet to shake so badly you couldn't see out of it, over about 120mph.

For what I've seen friends scoring carbon Bell helmets for lately, I'd be shocked if they went into premium Arai/AGV pricing territory.

My daily helmet is a Schuberth C3 Pro. It's big and heavy, but it does what it says it does - stay stable and very quiet. I just wanted something with an integrated bluetooth so I could talk to my wife on long trips on the Multistrada. Pretty much any option would have been cheaper than a pair of those C3s with BT lol.

I cant remeber where I saw it but bell announced a custom fir project on the Bell Carbon and the Moto 9 a while back. Here is what I found from bell but I thought I had read that they were going to open it up to the RS1 as well.

I have a Vortex and a Revolver and I saw the Stars on sale a while ago. I was leaning more towards the RS1 as I hear they are quieter and have less wind noise for street use. But some Stars can be had for less than the RS1s if you dont mind what graphics are out.

They already 'kinda' have that ability. Bell Stars and Bell RS-1 both have completely removable/washable liner/paddings, you can get different sizes on those removable inserts and swap 'em out to (at least) semi-custom size/fit the liner.
I used to be a Shoei user (Arai just doesn't fit me) until, when looking for a new helmet a couple years back someone suggested I look at Bell RS-1 as a possible alternative to Shoei. Haven't regretted swapping to 'em. Quieter than shoei and the removable/washable liner pieces/inserts (at least here in south US where you do serious sweating in summer) makes things bearable.

Any update or intel on when the new range will hit the stores? Pictures? I got one three years ago and wear it 5/6 times a week with the photochromic lens and love it. Made squid mistake at last track day when a gust of wind rolled it off the saddle and cracked the visor plus the connector piece for the visor so was looking to pick up a bargain around Thanks Giving but might hang on now if the new graphics are hot. Not really taken with any of the current crop.

Looks like a good idea, I always raced with a Bell, I've bought Bell for my kid from 1/4 midgets all the way to 410 Sprint Cars. A properly fitted helmet is a must, and the newest problem for helmets is head and neck restraints, and the dreaded red eye.
I ended up with a Shoei of all things, on a bike purchase ,a new RF1000 a little gaudy but perfect fit, so I used it, fast forward 6 months, and I had occasion to crash test it, ambulance ride, some sheet time, ti plate and some screws, but what impressed me was I hit my head hard, knocked the shield off, saw colored Zolotone, but no headache next day. So I searched and found another new RF1000 even though they have been discontinued I stick with what I know works. I stopped my head hard and fast enough on the pavement in that wreck to have red eye and a concussion and I had neither.

2016 Star line

Just for those who might be interested I contacted Bell and they say the new line, for 2016, won't be released until May of next year. Damn that's quite a wait!! What to do? Go for an old style as I need to change or hang it out some how? First world problems - gotta love em!!!!

As a helmet whore, I'm really not digging the price trend of lids nowadays...

More info popping up all over: New 2016 Bell Stars - Motorcycle.com News

Price range starts at $450-500 for the Plain Jane Star, $700-$750 for the Race Star (which has a carbon shell), and $1200-$1300 for the top end Pro Star, which differs from the Race Star only by having a higher grade carbon shell for lighter weight.

So no big jump in price after all, just an extended range offering for those wanting a Bell to Compete with the top end AGV's, etc.

Really like my current Star but it's getting a bit long in the tooth, so this is top of the list for it's replacement.

Thanks Steve, I've just got through looking at the new catalogue and those new Bell's do look very sexy!! The Pro Star does look a bit tasty at $1200 (plus the $150 for the photochromic, must have, visor). Probably go with the Race Star (RSD and the Ace Café I like!!) Have to say the RSD design in the Star looks like it could be an awesome design as well but not the quality compromise is worth it? Ah well now for the wait!! Maybe in that time I can convince the wife the 1199 needs an upgrade to 1299 too!!!!!
