new diavel will be rocking a belt

Interesting. Looks like they are moving more to a V-Rod shape and I don't think that is a good thing.

hmmm, i pretty much like the concept.

"frameless", more torque (DVT), pegs up front, sleeker design, belt ...

pretty cool.

The front peg position seems like a bad idea to me. Harley tried to build a performance cruiser with a forward peg position as well and that bike has been a flop.

The V-Rod? I don't keep up with Harley's but I always thought that was an interesting one.

I am not sure it is a flop. However, it does not corner well and that has always been a staple of Ducati's to me. I like the design so maybe the aftermarket will jump in and give options on the peg position.

I think this is what the Diavel should have been from the beginning. Most of the people we've sold them to really wanted a fast cruiser, not a heavy and slow-turning Monster. I say bring it on! Not sure about other markets, but here the V-Rod has always sold very well, we've taken many of them on trade for Diavels over the years. I think if Ducati did this and marketed it to the cruiser crowd it would be a better seller than the current Diavel, which has turned into a very niche bike, too heavy and lumbering for the sporty riders and too sporty and pegs too far back for the cruiser riders. The BIG challenge, and this was the case with the current Diavel and will be the same if a new one comes out, is to get the cruiser riders to actually shop for a bike at the Ducati shop. Maybe for a big multi-line shop it's not as much of an issue, but for those of us who are exclusive Ducati dealers it's a challenge. The cruiser guys think "crotch rocket" when they see Ducati. On the other hand, this is kind of like Audi building a pickup truck to compete against the F-150, and you don't see that happening.......... so who knows if this is real or not.

Belt driven... Vomits.

You'd be surprised how many customers will not buy a motorcycle with a chain final drive on it. I have people who won't buy a Multistrada because it doesn't have shaft drive, and people who won't buy a Diavel because it doesn't have belt drive. The American market in general hates maintenance, they want ease of use above finite performance in lots of cases. So for that reason, I'm not opposed to belt drive if it were to come on any revised Diavel.

Nothing wrong with a belt. I've often wondered if it was feasable on a sportbike. Weight of the pulleys/gears might be a deal breaker.

I'm fine with the Diavel having gyno pegs and a belt. If I wanted sporty, the Monster is by far the better choice.

Didn't Harley already build this bike design? Why on Gods green earth would a company like Ducati even entertain the concept of producing a typical run of the mill cruiser with the pegs mounted forward.???
It would lose a lot of manueverability and handle like a dog (at least by Ducati standards) Do they really think they could persuade the Harley / bad ... poser crowd to buy a Italian Harley knock off? LOL

That bike is an albatross and will not sell well Ducati needs to stick to their main fort'e.... building fast, nimble, expensive, exotic sexy bikes! :D

Come on Ducati... Don't be a sell out!

Just my opinion (I am sure others may disagree)

And he we go...the demise of the Diavel.

Especially with the forward pegs. That ruins it for me.

I know a lot of people like that also. The chain is a HUGE turn-off for people in the market the MTS is supposed to be targeting (sport touring riders).

The MTS is perfect for trips across country...except for the chain.

I don't like it either. I am going to get a MTS, but it is in spite of the chain. And I had to give it some long thought. The MTS is a bike people buy to ride long distances and to put 50-100k miles on. Nobody wants to have to worry about and .... with a chain all the time. That is why you don't see them on most other ST/Touring bikes.

Go to a Harley dealer and count how many they have on the floor. I rarely see one out and about. Truthfully I have not been in a Harley dealer is a few years, but that used to be the case. The bike has not sold well and they kept coming out with various versions of it to try to improve sales. Interestingly, one of the versions they actually tried moving the pegs back under the rider instead of out front. Part of the problem was simply it didn't fit Harleys marketing marketing demographics and it was alway said that "real" Harley riders didn't consider it a "real" Harley.

Keep in in perspective.. This bike isn't marketed for people who like riding fast bikes fast, it's for people who hop on it for the weekend and cruise with the guys. It absolutely will sell great with the Harley/Cruiser crowd. My brother rides a VTX 1800 I tried to get him to demo a Diavel but the peg placement turned him off, just like every other cruiser guy I talked to, otherwise they loved the idea of it, power/weight etc.
I'm sure I will die a little inside when my brother gets one and slaps floor boards on it though.

on the plus side, if they come out with this design, the diavel now will come down even further in price and i will be able to snag one on the cheap... I like that idea better

Throw on a set of ridiculous ape hangers and the Harley crowd will be on board for sure! The test rider should be wearing a pirate outfit and no helmet for marketing purposes:D

i took a diavel on a test ride once up the mountain, that thing was a BLAST! only downside were the pegs being too low.

i will be looking for one in the next few years.

that thing on the drag strip? hell yeah!
