Went to Ducati today and the Mechanic told me that the new Heat shield arrived and wanted my opinion. He pulled it out of the box and I didn't think it looked bad at all. So he asked me if he could install it on my bike and this would be their first install. I had time to kill so I said what the hell go ahead. So he did the heat shield mod for the Termi Full System.
Initial impression of the Termi Full System CF heat shield.
1. looks to be the same size as the original in terms of diameter. Pictures make it look larger than it actually is.
2. little longer going downward to cover more of the header.
3. Extended to protect heat on ankle (Never felt heat on ankle cause i always wear my Riding boots) but people who don't ride with Ankle high would benefit.
4. Metal shield internal of the Carbon Fiber.
5. Carbon Fiber matches better with all the Ducati CF Matches Ducati Rear tire tire hugger perfect. The Original CF was shinny and didn't match the rear tire hugger.
Initial impression of the Head Cover
1. Well made.
2. Hides the beauty of the Magnesium head but blends in well (CF would of been better) Its only a matter of time before we see aftermarket shields.
Overall It doesn't look bad at all in fact we both liked it. More carbon fiber the Better!. We thought it was going to be this huge thing but that wasn't the case at all. The size is the same as the original just a little longer downwards. In photos, the light makes it look huge because you see it in 2D but in 3D Real Life its no bigger than the original the extended part curves inwards which photos don't really show it well. Riding home I felt something was missing and different and realized it was the heat that was missing. I was used to the heat. No seat heat and most of all no burning in my right inner thigh. Decided to ride in town in and make my bike really hot to test it out. I will honestly say no heat. Well done Ducati! My old Termi Heat shield was browning on the outside around the rim and the inside was completely burnt through the heat reflective lining and causing the CF to get really brittle. It wouldn't have lasted another 2-3 months of riding. All in All I really like the Mod and for me its a keeper. One thing to note is the Engine heat sheild will have to be slightly (Shaved) modified if you are using the Sato Engine slider. Pain in the ass to install approx 4 hours for his first install Im sure he will cut the time down. Tank, fairings, subframe all have to be removed.
