New Heat Shield for Full Termi

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

The new shield is so big and now that it is plastic it is really going to frostify (Canadian for "douche up") the looks of my carbon rear fender.

Funny. I agree though, I'm too used to the clean look as it is. I'm planning on holding off as long as I can. I rode all day yesterday in about 70F weather and was okay. But, will see what summer brings.

I don't think I'd go as far as getting full termis to remedy it, but I was thinking slips already so it isn't that radical of a departure since that carbon piece is so big it would cost several hundred anyway if they sold it a la carte.

I think they they asked a psychologist from Bologna what they thought and decided not to produce a stock CF shield. They're banking on our pathologic addiction to CF and hence buying a new exhaust system just to fit a little CF heat shield on.

Thanks for the pics Scrapper.

I can nderstand that heat is a problem for some, though I will not have the kit on mine. I like the clean open look of the original Termi shield and no way could I ever cover the rear head in plastic bits.. Well, if it was a choice between the plastic bits or roasting my bits in SoCONUS summer heat, I may feel different.

Does anyone know where I could purchase the 'old' style carbon fiber termi heat shield? I've been looking but all I can find is this new one, which I am not a fan of.

For the sake of not starting ANOTHER heat shield thread, I wanted to ask here.

Are there any mechanical/electrical risks with running no heat shield at all on the full Termi system? I'm always in a suit and boots and rarely in stop and go traffic...and I quite like the look of the exposed pipe.

Perhaps consider fiberglass wrapping of the pipes....
.. but I think that may have some other issue as well..

Yes.

Dude your sitting a fireplace.

Even at racing speeds the first termi shield would literally cook your azz on hard runs.

Without you will literally bister your skin even on a track .

If you ever get stuck below 45mph for any length of time, you would probably fry the ecu right above the exhaust.

In 3 years I have only had one bad day but it sucked. And I have mine with the full new shield and wrapped. Trick is keeping engine temps below 195f even then it would be ludicrous to not have a shield.

Yes I agree with Outhouse. You will fry everything in the Vicinity without some sort of heat shield, no questions asked.

There is a guy in these Forums that have the same proposition as you do. Try to dig deeper into the threads to see how far he got.

Your best bet for what you want if you have the Full Termi Exhaust is the 1st Gen Heat Shield. After going regular exhaust -> 1st Gen Termi Shield -> No Vertical Cylinder Cover -> 2nd Gen Termi Shield -> Vertical Cylinder Covers -> Akrapovic Exhaust, I can tell you that the 2nd Gen Termi Shield is the best to protect you from the heat. I could even touch the carbon of the shield after the bike has been running for a while. After that, you can probably get away with the 1st Gen Termi, and either get the rear subframe covers or get a whole rear carbon subframe. In my experience, there is a lot of heat transferred on the rear subframe that you get while riding.

Good luck!

^ Thanks for those tips gentlemen. If anyone still has a first generation Termi heat shield, I'd love to pick it up from them.

Can someone who has a Gen 2 heat shield (like pictured in post 15, first pic) take me an up close pic of it ? Of course the bolt vibrated loose from it and is gone. Ducati cant give me a part number for it, and I am not exactly sure what the bolt looked like. I know it has a big fat head and a 8mm or so shoulder to it.

If someone could snap me an up close pic of it it would help me find it. I am sure no one wants to take the bolt out so I can see the shoulder diameter, but if anyone has one for sale, can you take me a pic of the bolt from the accessory pack please ?

Thanks

Its a stepped bolt head.

it has a shoulder for fiber washer.

It is similar to the heat shield bolts on your exuast plate on the front of the exhuast.

I had a spare and used that because it had longer threads, so you can catch it before it falls out.

Don't use the correct one, its to short, that's why we all loose it.

@outhouse

Yeah, I actually grabbed one of the bottom fairing bolts and put it in to test the thread and shoulder dimensions and it fit pretty well. I got one on the way, I didnt think about a washer behind it.

Can you describe the washer or a pic of it ? I think I got the bolt part right.

Thanks

NOLA
