I've also heard the cheek pads feel like cheap crap in Bell helmets.

I really love my Arais.

Like Stw said, the Bells are actually known for being in contention for the softest feeling cheek pads in a helmet... Like soft fuzzy bunnies rubbing your face ;)

I'm very new to riding. Started last August in 2012 with a kawi zx6r and in march 2013 traded up for an 1199 base. From August 2012 to now I have almost 15,000 miles under my belt. I bought all the gear when I got my first bike and took all the motorcycle store advise I could get. They said arai was the best so I got an alpine star leather race jacket and an Arai rx-q DNA to match. Looks nice. However I quickly realized that over time as I got faster, my head would bounce around like one of those boggle heads. It a lot pushed into my face because of the short snowt of the helmet. I thought it was just me. It wasn't.

Realizing that a lot of those people don't really ride enough to accurately comment on a particular item I started my own research. Trying and riding with different helmet. The arai rxq is not for sportbike racing. It's for touring and an upright position. The corsair is for racing. I also tried the agv and that is for racing as well. Shoei is also good for racing. Now my head stays in position at 170+ mph. Hope this helps.

I wish Arai or Shoei would offer it too. I have pinlocks for my Shoei and totally agree - they are fantastic. Why I can't get a transition AND pinlock is beyond me. I hate having to carry two shields in the spring and fall.

I have a pin lock shield for my Arai Siqnet Q (one of my touring helmets), but no, it's not a transition type.

I have a couple for my Shoei X-11 too (one clear and one dark tint) that I use for commuting in the winter when fogging is bad. They work incredibly well and Shoei has the best shield release system I have seen. I like my Arai helmet better, but that Shoei is staying on commute duty permanently until I find something that either only needs one shield (transition pinlock, AGV dark rider flip down or similar) or has a superior shield switching system and comes in pinlock.

I love my Arai helmets as well. Hec, I also think my AGV and Shoei are fine helmets too. ;)

HJC? My friend showed up with one of their top of the line models (rpha?), I was surprised to learn that it was a HJC as my initial opinion of them is like most everyone else's, but his looked pretty darn nice.

The Shoei GT Air has an inner flip down tinted visor as well. Might be a good alternative to the transition ones. I almost picked one up but I'm not a fan of any of the designs right now

That's my main problem with Shoei. I like the one I have almost as well as my Arai, but good luck finding one that you can live with from a paint job perspective. :)

I would've got the GT-Air over my Bell RS-1 for commuting if they made one with a decent paint job, as you said. No one seemed to have them in stock when i was buying either

That's one thing I love about Arai and AGV. If you really want the helmet, but can't find a design you like you can just get the Ducati branded ones which are relatively plain and complement the bike. You could always get one painted, but that's a bit of a hassle. I would like to replace my aging Shoei commuter helmet, but I won't do it until I find a do it all helmet that has the ability to have one shield for all conditions through transition or flip down tint technology that also has pinlock. After futzing around with gels and sprays for years finding pinlock was a godsend and I can't imagine going back to anti-fog stuff. I always forgot to put it on anyway so it only worked occasionally after a fresh coat.

I have a Schuberth C3 Pro that fits well. Has a drop-down tinted visor and pinlock shield. Very comfortable and pretty quiet. Vents well. I use it when I ride my multi. If you don't want the modular type, the S2 is a full-face helmet with drop-down visor and pinlock lens. I also have an SR1 when I ride my 1199 and the shield mechanism allows very easy change outs. Love that helmet. Anyway, might be worth a look. Schuberth

Yes.... If you can get it on without ripping your ears off...:D

I saw a review that prefers the GT Air, have you looked at it?

What, are you Alfred E. Neuman? :p No worse than my Corsair 5 and better than my AGV.

Lol.... I find the Schuby to be just about impossible to get on... Its soooooo tight..if I try an XL then it goes on a little easier but then is way to loose...Great helmets but the design makes on/off extremely painful...Imo

The C3 - I am not partial to one over the other, but am looking to change at some point:

Schuberth C3 Pro And Shoei Gt Air: First Impressions - Reviews - VFR Discussion

No didn't see that, but he states he wears Shoei usually. Not to say he can't be objective, but perhaps he's used to they way they fit. I did find the C3 Pro to be smaller and went up one size, but I was right on the cusp of their head measurements anyway. I haven't tried on a Shoei in years because they never fit my head right, that's why I was an Arai fan. But, both of my Schuberth's fit great. No complaints. Still have my ears attached too. The GT-air looks nice and I have seen really good reviews. Another selling point, is the Schuberth uses the Cardo communication system (SRC) and although not the leading edge of tech, it functions well and the unit comes as a replaceable collar. Very sleek.

So I got the RPHA-10, and upon initial examination, I am actually pretty impressed. The quality doesn't seem much below Arai, and the paint is absolutely stunning. My only gripe thus far, without riding in it, is I am not sure how I feel about the liner. Not sure how "cooling" it will be, but we'll see.

More to come...
