Hello all! Figured I'd introduce myself - new to the forum and to Ducatis. I've been riding since 2008 and have had a handful of bikes over those years, but never a Ducati. After I recently binge watched every 2022 V4S video out there (especially 44teeth, of course), I gave in and decided to test ride a '21 V4S just to get a better idea of the bike in general. It hit like a high school crush.
I hadn't tried a Ducati V4 (any year) until then, so it was good to try even though I'm sure the 2022 will be noticeably different. Since I'll be using the bike for both track and street, the V4/V4S/V4R debate landed me on the S. Trying the S (with the electronic suspension) made me realize how surprisingly comfortable the road riding can be, while thankfully it can still operate in a fixed suspension mode if/when desired on a track day. So the S seems like a sensible balance for how I'll be using the bike.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but man.. that engine. There's just nothing like the sound and connected feel of a Ducati V4.. nothing. All the different sounds it makes, especially that almost V12-like complex harmonic "hum" it does at around 7k - 8k.. right before screaming like a MotoGP bike way past where you'd think it would redline.. it's addicting. Obviously there's plenty to love about the rest of the bike as well, but the heart of the Ducati V4 is immeasurably seductive.
One of my past bikes was an S1000RR, and despite it being a great bike (in many ways), I always found it to be so Germanic in how it feels like a soulless "tool" (similar to a Tesla, in that way). I don't even care if I'd be quicker at a track day on an S1000RR (and maybe I wouldn't be!) compared to a V4 - I just want to enjoy wrestling a gorgeous red beast and enjoy diving head first into Ducati world.
I ordered the bike back in December and am still in the classic hurry up and wait mode until it arrives "hopefully in March". The suspense is killing me.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll meet many of you at some point, especially if the bike arrives early enough this year where there's still slots available at some track days.
