G'Day all
Thought id introduce myself
Names John, live on a 10,000 sq mile cattle station in the NT of Australia
Work as a professional shooter, up'in choppers all day long
Had dukes since i was 18 ' darmas, ss supersports (going back now)
916,s 998 , sorry i couldnt get excited over the 999 so i went over to a R1(not for long)
1098 , sold me last 1198S 2 years i loved it
Originally from Camden in nsw, my good mate was The Go Show (Anthony)
Have a lot of ducati factory stuff i was lucky to my hands on,
Love me Dukes new and old
Hobbies, i collect old corvettes, hunting fishing, all that station stuff
Just purchasing a 1199 tri as we speak, was gonna wait for the 1199R
But i think me wallet would have a heart attack,
And as we get older we get our ambitions and our capabilities all crossed up
Thought id join to find out where to get stuff and learn a few things
And get back into it , just a lot slower these days
Cheers:D

Cheers

Wild pigs , Buffalo , Scrub Bulls , Brumbies
Dingoes Wild dogs , wid cats , further south camels , but i dont venture down that far
too much paperwork drilling backpackers id think , unless the government changes the classifaction from visitors to feral
some ive seen look pretty feral to me !

I have to ask, is there any good twisting roads up there to throw your new girl around or will you fitting knobbies, and is that Anthony Gobert your talking about?

yeah out front of the station , there,s the daly river road , but there,s too many critters that jump out in front , seen a toyota hit a buffalo at speed , wasnt pretty
and its 30 k,s of dirt road out of the station ,
i,ll put her on the back of my toyota and take her into Darwin to Hidden Valley race track
and during the wet season ,gimme something to do she,ll live in my lounge room , i,ll be happy just to look at it, its bloody beautiful ,
fit up some bits
plate eliminator , short levers , see if can pull the pipes off and get him coated , stop me arse from roasting , some carbon and other things i,m sure i,ll find to do
yep Anthony Gobert , he lived around the corner from me in Narrelan heights ,
our hangout was McCarthur Motorcycles in them days at Camden , me mate Greg owned it
Anthony was a legend before things went sideways , definately knew how to party though
such is life :(
i kept a lot of his gear for him , his Kwaka leathers , his Ducati Leathers , helmets and so on

What a bloody great rider he was. Such a pity we never got to see he true ability. Read somewhere about Mick Doohan having 10% Talent, and 90% Commitment, and Anthony having the exact opposite. 10% Commitment, but 90% Talent. Tongue in cheek of course.

Can only imagine how many things can jump out at you up there. Just came back from the Island not so long ago, and the the amount of dead Roos I seen on the road was amazing. Probably due to all the rain we had down here last summer.

I've heard you can get the inside of the pipes coated in ceramic, or something to that effect, and actually increases the air flow as well as dissipating a-lot of the heat. Would have to be a must where you live. Let me know what your getting the pipes treated with, as I'm thinking of doing the same. Not pleasant in the traffic down here.

I've also heard they done away with the unlimited speeds up there. Is that true?

Cheers

seriously he was a legend , i seen him jump on anything and ride the wheels off it
he had unbelievable talent , it was too easy for him
if he had half of Micks, commitment , god knows where he would have been
yeah the critters here are bad , give u an idea , between baiting and chopper shooting , i think we got around 15,000 pigs ,
yeah unfortunately where i live , its the last place you would find a Ducati or and old Vette Stingray , but hey i,m just happy to have it in my lounge-room and looking at it ,
ever since i sold my 1198S when i left Jabiru in Kakadu National Park , ive been missing it badly , but i love the lifestyle here and all the hunting i do
so buying a $40k bike was probably not the best financial decision
ive been considering just getting a old 1098 that a mate had built up by Reds Ducati a
pure race bike , full system and painted in Troy Bayliss colours , just so i had a duke again, as ive never seen a new 1199 and up here in NT noone i knew had one to even sit on ,
when i come across the tri colour by accident ,
a guy just bought it a couple months ago , put 1,000k,s on it , and a bloody decent stone chip on the front fairing Geez , thats its only fault , and due to some unfortunate financial problem
needs to get out of it ASAP
made the call ,question was do u wanna cheap Tri colour thats goona owe u less than a S ,
i had to say yes or no , well being the duke junkie that i am , u can guess what the answer was , i,m pretty good at these rash decisions , NOT
they just had an election up here few months ago , the new mob who got voted it promised to lift the speed limit i think !
so from what i hear , dont qoute me , its going up to 150 or 160 in the open area,s
i,ll believe it when i see it as they say !
where abouts in the rat race down south are ya ?

John, thats a hell of a-lot of oink oink mate. Incredible. Good decision on the Tricolore by the way. I had too think twice about laying down the money as well, but I just couldn't resist. Not having kids probably helped with that decision.

I try not to get out in too much traffic, but I'm only just west of Parramatta at Blacktown, and it's unavoidable sometimes. It's the only downside I think to this beast. The heat coming off it can be a real issue at times. It was lovely in the winter months, but the temprature rises very quickly if you get stuck in traffic for just a minute in summer. I certainly don't ride this to the shops and back, so wearing shorts is out of the question. I could imagine wearing shorts and thongs on bikes up there would look like the norm.

Must be hard looking at that paint chip you have, but I'll make you feel a little better. Just before I headed down to Phillip Island for MotoGP, I layed the bike over on it's right hand side in my mates driveway. He lives near the beach, and this sand in his driveway must of been the softest sand I have ever placed a wheel on. Happened so quick I wasn't able to hold it up with my dodgy right leg. $2,000.00 of insured repairs later and I had my bike back. Just the other day I changed the passenger comfort seat over and placed the cowl back on but didn't click it in properly. That went flying off just around the corner and I now have to get another one. Too many scratches and chips on it. The beer didn't help that night.

Hope you get it too the track soon buddy.
